Upgrading and installed applications

Every time I upgrade the OS on the N95 (last the version 12 update) I loose installed applications and the mail configurations are also gone. Is this normal? I install applications in the memory card so It is rare that it happends. And as far as I can see they still are on the memory card , but I cannot start them from the folder with theicons forthem. Imust reinstall from sis files and I must definemy mail account once more. Is it possible to avoid this ?

Long story short: yes this is normal and you can't avoid it. It's like installing an application on your D-drive on pc and then completely whipe and reinstall OS on C:\. All registry entries etc will be gone.
