Hi all - sorry for the length and detail of my first ever post!
I'm the proud owner of a new E90 on Vodafone UK.
Yes I love it, warts and all, and yes I've had a 9300i for the last year or more.
Anyway, this is the issue. I have no connectivity problems with 3G. I cannot however access 3.5G or mobile internet as Vodafone call it.
There is a leaflet in the Vodafone sales package which says that as default,3G broadband is turned off, because accessing it means that voice calls over the normal network will be diverted to voicemail etc.
Not a problem - they then go on to say how to activate it:
- tools
- settings
- connection
- packet data
- high speed packet access
- select 'enabled' (disabled by default)
This gives a warning that "all active connections will be closed - continue?"
Selecting yes kills 3G for a second or two then restarts in normal 3G mode, stating high speed packet access status is still disabled.
I've taken this up with Vodafone who have advised that it should happily activate when there is a HSDPA network available. I've gone to two areas confirmed by them as active (Mill Hill, London NW7 and London, E1) and still get the same problem.
I presume this is a problem on all Vodafone's HSDPA-enabled phones but in any case, can anyone please please please shed some light on this?
Thanks ever so
Fishtwig
Hi fishtwig
Thanks for this useful bit of info as i am now glad Voda screwed up my order and delivery as this sounds really bad to me. As it seems Voda have screwed with the Firmware some how it will only show 3.5g when it is actually transferring data in a supported area but not really sure what is happening with your device to be honest sound very weird to me. The only i can think is despite what Voda are saying there HSDPA support is patchy at best.

Im with vodafone on the E90...
i have got the 3.5g working, and it was very fast (about 350k/sec!)
I think you ahve to be in an area where you get good signal, and there is not a lot of other users in the area...
i have changed /tools/settings/connection/packet data/ to "when available" , this will indicate when you are in a 3G area..
I dont think it will ever say 3.5G until you are downloading/connecting with 3G when it will then 'kick in' to the 3.5g mode at which point it flies :P
What speed is vodafone supporting on 3.5g? also, i havent got my bill through or anything yet, how unlimited is the unlimited internet tarrif?
@ScottE90, with Vodafone last year around September I think people were reporting 1.1mb on Vodafone 3.5g using th HTC TyTN
When i work out how unlimted my data plan is, i will try maxing out my connection a little further, i was quite impressed with 350kb/sec downlaod, but over 1000kb/sec would be impressive to say the least...
I had the same problem that you have got.
I changed my product code and did a firmware update.
No Vodacrap on the phone now and HSDPA works fine !
Hi all,
The real problem i have with Voda is even with them setting the Internet Free it really is at some cost. 7.50pm gets you 120mb after that you pay 2mb.
T-Mobile charge you 7.50pm for up to 1gb if you go over they warn you and advise you to upgrade to a higher plan if you do it often.
If you did the same on Voda they would charge in excess of 900. Now which one seems like the most sensible deal.

I also have a Vodafone issued E90. Could you please explain the "changed my product code" bit, as I've tried to look for firmware updates and not succeeded. Does changing the product code allow me to find the firmware update, or am I looking in the wrong place.
Also, have you found any downside to removing the 'Vodacrap'?
Best wishes
