i tried to use the Copilot and it take really a long time to get the current location(the starting point). really take 15 - 20 mins.....what could be the reason for this?

Well your not supposed to move, but in my expirence it doesnt make much difference. Nothing like 15 mins at all.

Have you got the initial lock on, or does it do this everytime?

Best thing, to make sure your not nestled between some buildings, and make sure the slide is open.

my slide was open i ges i was nestled between some buildings...... i tried yesterday for 1st time. by the way what is "initial lock " sorry to ask these questions i'm new to mobile technology.

Well the initial lock is when it doesnt have a clue where in the world you are, thus it takes longer to get a fix. After that, it knows your not over the other side of the world.

One thing Im not sure on however, if this is software dependant, or hardware.

What I mean is, once the phone has the intial lock (be it with nokia maps, route66 or any other GPS software) does the phone remember it? Or is that down to software? Im sure someone else can tell you that.

I cant compare mine, because Im starting to think the 6110 has a better receiever in it.

Make sure that AGPS is turned on in your settings (Settings - Personalisations - GPS, or something like that) and you'll get your initial lock in a under 2 minutes.

I usually get mine in about 30 seconds.

Sorry, when I originally said initial lock, I meant the first lock on. Everytime you start a GPS feature, (nokia maps, copilot etc) it needs to lock on. But if you have done the initial lock (i.e. the first lock for that software) then all other locks after that shouldnt take long.

With AGPS it should be even quicker, but be aware it costs you in data, only small amounts but this can suck if you have a bad data package.

Anyways, in your case once you have started copilot (or any other GPS using software) you should get a lock within a few minutes.

Things that can affect a lock are:

Weather.

Special windscreens (heated ones for example, or UV resistant ones).

The area (if your amoung high buildings, heavy tree cover etc).

Im afraid the GPS capabilities of the N95 seem to be random, with some people reporting no problem and others like you saying its taking ages. All I can recommend is updating the firmware, using AGPS if you have a data package, and perhaps trying another GPS program, see if its copilot or not.

Oops! I think I jinxed myself by saying that! It took me 10 mins to get a lock while i was in central London today.
