Nokia Numbering Scheme? N7x N8x N9x?

Being a recent owner of an N91 8GB and also N93i, i never got the number of scheme of nokia how it decides the series numbers? The successor to the N91 seems to be called N81, and for N82 seems to have the same specs as the N95? But N80 has hardly any relation to N81/N82! ... I donot even follow or understand the N7x series. And it is not as if they are arranged as slider, candy bar, flip etc! Prices are also all over the place!!!:con?

Can some one truely shed some light on the whole mess?

The marketing dept at Nokia are probably making the same wish 😉

I thought they tried to make a fresh start with the 'new' numbering scheme (Exx, Nxx) but seems that they kinda lost it right from the beginning, as they are still using the old four-digit models and - as you said - completely messed up the common logic of the model comparision.

With the current organizational setup, the "Multimedia" division is using Nseries numbering, the "Enterprise Solutions" division is using Eseries, and the "Mobile Phones" division is using just numbers (no letters in front).

Yeah but why not just start with the N1, then the N2 etc and E1, E2. Why do they use the numbers they use?
