I recently purchased a Nokia n80 (made in China) and am having a problem with the phone freezing up.
With a battery thats fully charged, the phone will go into a permanent sleep mode. It also appears that the battery goes dead or drains itself. When I hit the power button to re-boot, the blue light keeps flashing but nothing else happens. The phone cannot be turned off either without removing the battery. I've already upgraded to version 5 firmware (phone was originally from the Phillippines), and this didn't resolve the problem. I've also purchased additional batteries and that didn't resolve the issue either.,
After reinserting the battery, it shows only 1 bar and needs to be re-charged.
Bluetooth is off, the LAN search feature is off, and e-mail retrieval is on but only for headers.
I also have a 2nd n80 set up the same way with no issues at all.
Suggestions please.
Jim
Were you in the Philippines when you bought it? Or did you have someone ship it out for you? Did you get it from a stall, or a more reputable dealer? You don't really say your nationality, though myself as a foreigner living in this country, people can and will take advantage of you at every turn. They are a very observant bunch of friendly individuals, but the moment you look like you are uncertain about anything, they are right there to 'help you'
Most of the tiangge are supplied by a small handful of individuals, you can never really be certain where their stock originates from - firmware regions could be from anywhere in the world. The problem with this is that many phones sold as 'brand new' are far from it. You need to personally inspect the model you are going to buy, spend at least 10 or 15 minutes doing a whole bunch of random button pushing to try and trip things up. Check firmware versions, look for changed or damaged housing, dust in places that brand new items would not have, etc...
Unfortunately it appears as though you were sold a broken phone, not much can be done about it really.
dchky:
The phone was actually purchased at a Nokia dealer in the Philippines and brought here to the US. The box was sealed and included all components.
Everything worked fine for the first 2 months or so, then this issue started popping up.
The firmware version update was verified by Nokia as being correct and it was installed correctly.
I typically am as careful as you have suggested. I guess this just goes to show that it's not always enough.
If no one else offers a nugget of advice I'll send it to the Phillipines as necessary for the replacement, as Nokia has already suggested.
Thanks,
Jim
