i have been advised to purchase a space battery directly from Nokia, for 19GBP, and not from ebay as they are more risky to use - does any one have any experience of buying batteries from ebay or third party companies and should i follow the advice given?

Yes, buy a nokia original. Nothing wrong with the ebay ones from my experience, but they won't give you as much juice.
I have bought both original and unoriginal batteries from eBay, and they are exactly the same, except for a hologram sticker. This means that even when you pay for original quality and buy from a normally trusted source (UK), you can still end up with fakes. I am contacting Nokia and hope they will bust this jerk!
There's a Battery thread on this forum that you might wanna check out. I have posted pictures of the original and unoriginal (fake). Might be worth a look.
My days of trusting eBay for 'original' battries and things that are easy to replicate are over. Be very carefull or you might end up with a battery with even lower standby time than the original and not knowing why...
