hi there

wireless lan unfortunately isnt working. picks up my home network but when i say 'start web browsing' it loads and then says 'web: no gateway reply'

have googled this issue and tried a few of the resolutions found on there but none seem to be working. the phone is a day old and on o2 - anyone have any ideas how i can correct this issue?
thanks in advance for any help at all
cheers

What security are you using on your wireless network? I had the same errors as you when I was using WPA. I also had that error with WPA-SK. I ended up changing my connection to WEP. I know it's not advisable to use WEP, but it's the only way I could connect with my N95 (it's the only one my PSP would connect to, also).

Have you actually typed a web address in? I can get 'no gateway' at will by incorrectly typing web address. I'm still connected though

If it picks up your home network I believe it's safe to say it's working and it's your settings that need sorting out.
Take off your security settings on your router/access point and first get a connection and then re apply the security!

Do you have a dodgy homepage setup for your access point? I got this error message when I had an incorrect URL setup as a homepage for one of my access points.

Yes that's what I meant...try going to one of the preinstalled URL's eg Nokia.com or RAC club.

do you have DHCP and DNS set up on your router. If you configure this manually on your PC, you must do the same on the phone...

Exactly the same has now happened to me I connect to the network but when starting the browser I get the "gateway" error. Funny thing is that it worked yesterday! I have'nt changed any of my settings and my psp, pda and laptop connects to the internet without trouble:icon14: :con?

I have tried turning on and off (with taking out the battery) and I have tried to delete my accesspoint and reinstall it!!! What's happening?

Please help anyone:icon4:

But that is not what I meant.
Each access point can have a "homepage" setup for it (gprs AND wireless). Make sure you don't have anything silly setup as your homepage.

im pretty certain this is to do with the encryption set on your wireless network. I had the same issue some time back and it was fixed by changing wpa2 to just wep. not advisable ... but its the only way. Quite shocking as the n95 should really be able to deal with anything u throw at it , being a modern phone. i hope they fix this quick in a new patch release !

hi guys

thanks for all your advice

excuse my ignorance..but how do i change wpa2 to just wep?using windows xp

thanks again

you need to go into your routers firmware settings. this is done via typing an ip in a browser but each routers ip is different depdning on the make / model of the router. read router manual for more info.

I am running WPA on my N95 against a either a Cisco 1131 AP or more recently an Apple Airport Extreme - both work perfectly

Check that your router delivers correct DHCP and DNS information to clients. Alternatively, have you tried to set IP address, gateway and DNS server manually on the phone ?. I have had similar problems, when a DNS server suddenly stopped working with my Internet provider.

If DNS is not working, your browser will not be able to resolve an URL to an IP address.
