I have just synched my N95 to my Outlook contacts, but when someone calls or texts just their number appears, not their name. I have tested it on numbers stored as +44 and still the same, infact i soted the text number as it appeared with a text and updated the contact and it still does not display the name. Help!
No Callerd ID on N95
Make sure you don't have duplicates of contacts (e.g. same number stored on >1 contact), this may cause the issue you're describing.

I have deleted duplicate entries, no change. I have now even erased the entire phone book and tried saving a number direct from an SMS into the phone book, but when I go back to the SMS still only the number and not the name appears as the sender!
This is not a good way of testing it. I believe that SMS that are received before you added the contact in your contact book still will show only the number, not the name. Hence you have to try this approach after the contact is added =>
1. Add the contact and number to contact book.
2. ...then have the contact sending you an SMS.

They contact details were synched from Outlook onto my N95, then I recieved SMS, which displayed only number, and not the name.
Now I have entirely ersaed the phone book from the N95. I phoned it from another phone and then saved the number, and now the name appears when it recieves calls and texts.
But there must be an easier way of setting up the phone book than manually putting in every contacts details, otherwise whats the point of synchronising it with Outlook in the first place?
Sure, you're not supposed to have to add them one by one. Sync should do fine.
The "add-one-before-you-get-an-sms-" approach was only to show that the "number-to-name" lookup when receiving an SMS is done at the time of the recival of the SMS, and not everytime you view the SMS.
You said that "contact details were synched from Outlook onto my N95, then I recieved SMS, which displayed only number, and not the name". I believe this is due to duplicate numbers in contact (..or at least one possible root cause).
So all you should need to do to get everything right is basically either of the following approaches:
1. Erase/correct all duplicate items in Outlook.
2. Erase all contacts in N95.
3. Synchronise using PC Suite (first time only one way; Outlook => N95)
Or..:
1. Synchronise all contacts from Outlook to N95.
2. Delete/correct all duplicate contacts in N95
After this have been done you should be able to see caller ID as well as 'Name' when receiving SMS.
I have a similar problem. I think that is product of how send the ID the phone operator/company. If I add sync with my Outlook the number as full number: "+11111111111" the SMS arrive fine with name, etc, but when I receive a phone call of the same contact the phone only display me the number, not the name. If I add this contact with not full number "11111111" the call appear fine with name but when receive a SMS only display the number and not the associated name. I think that the company here sent for phone calls only the short number as ID ( 111111111 ) and for SMS the complete number (+11111111111) but I dont understand what is the reason that the phone dont associate this, because even my old SE T290 make this task fine.
I think that I have some bad configured in my phone or its a Firmware mistake.
I have now deleted my entire address book and then added in the details of one contact, he phoned me and his caller ID came up, and now the SMS from him also displays his ID, but his first message still displays only his number!
So in my SMS inbox I have messages from the same person, the first one just displays his number and the second one his name, and yet I only have his name in the address book. Figure that one out!
I think it was mentioned earlier, the phone only displays the name against any NEW SMS's that come from that person (silly, I know, it should at least give it a go at finding the name out for any SMS's with only numbers, maybe have a flag set so that if ever a contact is added or changed, then it re-looks up the numbers again?)
