Voice navigation on R66 7.3.545

26 replies · 5,816 views · Started 12 August 2007

Just upgraded to the above version of R66. Finally got it signed and working but im not getting any voice navigation, any ideas what I need to do

what you mean by that?
because i uninstalled everything, format phone and card yet still no voice.reinstalled .468 now cos i want voice nav

The problem is the old prefs.ini file from build 468. It isn't removed when 468 is uninstalled and it is causing 545 to mute. Just delete it manually and you'll be fine.

I believe the locations is something like c:/system/apps/route66

EDIT:
Turned out to be because I installed on the microSD card the second time around, so the pref.ini file has nothing to do with it (or so it seems).

If you install to internal memory, just copy the folder system/apps/Route66/speech to the same location on the microSD card and you are good to go.

cant be because i formated the card and the phone before installation
plus on nokia pc suite it doesnt show the system folder on the phones memory

from "bluedwarf" on the other thread:

"I had the same issue of no sound when I installed, then I copied manually the previous versions "speech" and "lang" folders into System\Apps\Route66 and the voice is back."

I tried that too but it didn't do a thing.

My 468 install was on internal memory and that is where the prefs.ini was left after uninstalling. So I deleted that and then installed 545 on the microSD (yes) and everything worked fine.

Btw you need y-browser or something like that when looking for folders and files on your S60. Forget about using Nokia PC Suite for that, it hides more than it shows.

Huh. So this version may be looking for speech files on memory card only..

not true, all my voice files/folder are located on my memory card

voice works just fine

And i said something different ? 😊

I can confirm, if route66 installed to phone memory, you can just copy speech dir to memory card to fix voice navigation.

Yeah, it is a strange issue that is for sure. It appears this version is buggy too 😉 At least I haven't had a crash in my 30mins of navigating with it with the Aussie maps (v1.7 I can see from the 545 installer) so far 😉
It appears that if you install to phone memory, the lang and speech folders need to be copied to the memory card. I tried removing the lang and speech folders from the phone given it wanted them off the card (C: using fexplorer/y-browser) and on starting, the app says "resources missing, re-install"... so it checks the local drive for these files when starting, but then stupidly sees the maps etc on the card (E: card) and then expects the voice files to be in there instead..
And when I re-installed, the installation process deleted the E: lang & speech folders grr..
Lucky I did take a backup of all this previously. fexplorer is very simple to copy whole folders across anyway (I couldn't see if y-browser could do it, there was no "mark" or "copy" option when highlighting the folder in y-browser, so went back to fexplorer and did the copy/paste easily using that).

I had problems anyway with R66 when installed to phone memory. When installed to memorycard, everything works fine. Both with the old version, as the new one. I don't know if this helps or not.

I didn't have a choice during my experimentation at one point. I put on a version >468 a while ago, and it didn't work to the internal GPS, so when I went to put 468 back in, it would ONLY work in the internal memory (not card). It would install ok, but no icons would come up for it anywhere (when installing on the memory card). Uninstalling it didn't help, from then on it would only work on internal memory. So internal it had to be, and I have found apps run a bit quicker from internal anyway (well, certainly loading, maybe not when running), so here it stays.

I see. Just a thought, a hard reset could solve the problems that you're having. Depending ofcourse if you wanna go that route...😎

I wasn't going to do that and spend all the time getting my phone setup again the way I wanted it just so I could run the lousiest most bug ridden piece of sotware I have ever used onto my memory card instead of from the internal memory (Gizmo comes a close second).
I really don't know why everyone raves about Route66, with outdated maps, rotten colours, crappy interface, not full N95 support (for things like landmarks, for things like the volume keys), it would be my last choice for purchase for navigation software for the N95. I was happy to pay the $10 to give Nokia Maps a go for a weekend away, and I will do it again, just for the reliability, nicer interface, nicer graphics, regularly updated maps (for free!) etc.
I had a fiddle with TomTom on a symbian system yesterday too, and I see why this is considered number 1... wow, a cut above even the Nokia offering, and streets ahead of Route66.
I suppose "free" and "gotta have navigation so I can demo it to my school mates next to me on the bus to school" makes the acquistion of getting IMEIs signed for R66 a very popular thing here on these forums. Mind you, of course I jumped to get the new version up and running to have a look also, I suppose it is a case of "this isn't something I have, so therefore I want it" attitude... for "free", it is OK I suppose (if you call stealing software OK).

Off my silly bandwagon now...

😊 Indeed. Seriously though, I have been using R66 for a couple of months now (cracked 486 version, and now the newer one) and it has worked very well on my N95. I installed it on the memorycard (Sandisk 2Gb Ultra II). I understand completely why you don't want to do the hard reset option, just for an app that doesn't suit your needs in the first place. But...I *do* know that a hard reset will often clear-up the smallest/biggest software-related problems. Again, just a thought. Btw I did the hard reset option not so long ago and my N95 was back up and runing, with my specific software installed and correct settings (incl Voip and Wlan), within 1 hour or so. So it really isn't that much work/hassle, but that's my opinion and experience ofcourse.

guys

ive got the sound problem and not sure what to do

this is what ive done :-

1) I had 468 installed with old maps
2) I uninstalled 486
3) installed 545 on phone memory
4) Replaced old maps with new

-- no sound coming --

5) Deleted prefs.ini from memory card
6) boot up r66 and it confirms usage agreement etc which is fine.

but still no sound

what am I doing wrong/different ?

thanks

As has already been mentioned (somewhere?) you have to copy the speech and lang folders to your memory card (this version is a little buggy I think, if you install in the phone mem, it wants those folders in the mem card, maybe because some legacy folders are hanging around from the 486 version?).

Is there anywhere that documents the feature list for upgrade?

does anyone know what the differences are

is it worth it?

maybe less bugs, certainly less crashing than the old one in testing both.
No cosmetic changes at all.

the main reason i updated was because .545 has full 7 digital post code capability and theres a quicker fix on GPS signal.

other than that, its visually the same.

hi community,

got curious about this thread. Can anybody confirm that the mentioned R66 versions do support the internal GPS of N95?if so, where can i get those?
And btw does somebody have an overview on the market which symbian software is supporting the n95 internal gps? I like the nokia maps software, but unfortunatelly the maps for China are horribile simple and do not help at all.

That cant be right

I put the latest maps on the old version, and i have full postcode searching now

However, I dont seem to be able to put in house numbers,
Also, i wont allow you to navigate to an area like tom tom,
I wanted to navigate to a small town in wales, but it wanted the address.....am i doing something wrong?
