I have had my n95 for over a week now, and I seriously am wondering what the multimedia keys are for and why Nokia built the double slider in the n95.
When I am listening to mp3s in landscape mode, I can skip to the next song, pause, rewind with the multimedia keys, but I can also do that with the arrow keys (D-Pad) with the slider even closed.
Can anybody name me a special feature that those multimedia keys can control that the other keys cant?
They are such a gimmick in my opinion.
I find those keys very handy when watching videos from the net.
And also when I watch mp4 full movies etc.
but u can just as well use the arrows in the D-pad, besides I find those multimedia keys have a very bad tactical feel to them.
I am really not trying to criticze the phone (besides the battery life), but the whole double slider and multimedia keys is such a gimmick. This way Nokia can say " hey we are the first ones who built a phone with a double slider", which they did 😃
have a larger screen in permanent landscape layout .. a vertical slide revealing a full qwerty keyboard?😊
I personally like double slider, looks cool and different...
Sure it looks cool and different, but there is no functionality behind it. just a gimmick 😊
I NEVER use the multimedia keys as I find it far too annoying that every time I open the slide to expose the keys, it opens the stupid 'multimedia menu', this takes far too long, I actually find it quicker and less annoying to open the music player and skip with the joypad, what a joke. :icon13:
sometimes looks compromise with functionality. i like how my n95 looks, i agree i don't use the multi media keys that often but then the n95 is the only one in it's class to have "everything" in such a small deivce.
Hi all,
Well personally i like the advantages i get from using my device in Landscape mode as i have 11 short cuts set up in this view a combination of both apps and Bookmarks. I also find it the easiest way to use the Music player as once i slide it shut i lock it with just a confirmation press, i wouldn't claim it is a killer feature but it is a good one well for me anyway.
Marc
but when u are in landscape mode u can still use the D-pad for navigating thru music videos.
They should have left the double slider and mm keys out and made the battery bigger and stronger in my opinion.
also another question. my old sendo x (also a symbian phone) was able to show the time and the date on the homepage, with the n95 I can only make it show the time but not the date in the homepage. Is there anyway to turn this feature on or do i have to go in the calendar everytime i wanna see what day it is?

If you are in general profile, the date is there below the operator name, but any other profile and it is the profile name... I discovered this when I saw a screen image somewhere going "wow, the date" because the first thing I do when I get a Nokia is to create my own "tonysprofile" and customise it (leaving the "General Profile" stock in case I want to see the stock behaviour).
So now I have a customised general profile because like you, I always look at the phone to get the date.
Regards
cool, thanx tony, i guess i have to modify the general profile too 😊
I agree.
The only thing the double slide is good for is doing the two-way shuffle you do when you're hand is idle.
Plus the ph**king pointless MM button on the side of the phone, that you end up touching every time you use the slide.
I'm gunna open up this baby and remove the button contact .... MUAHAHAHAAAAAH !
Already done it to the front MM button 😃
What is it that Nokia think we want constant/instant access to MM ?
Ooh, let me guess .... is it because it's a MM phone ?
I know, let's make it so that anytime anyone goes near the phone, the MM menu opens up.
FFS !
And while we're bitching about stuff - dontchya just hate the button lay-out ?
Hmm ?
That round-the-corner effect is ph**king abominable !
I tell you, there are some REAL morons working at Nokia.
Why can't we go back to the keyboard of keyboards - the Holy of Holies ... the venerable 6680 !
Now THAT was a sexy mofo of a keyboard/buttoning solution - lovely feel, great ergonomics.
As great as it may be in functionality, the N95 is utter sh*t for handling.
GRRRRR !

the e90 has an interesting layout .. but is way too heavy.
I'm still thinking slide .. like the Dopod or the O2 Zinc .. 😊
