Why does George Bush want to bomb Iraq?
Why bomb Iraq?
From what I understand, there is actually a lot of enmity between Saddam and Al Qaeda, based on practical doctrine.
Nobody yet has conclusive proof that he does have weapons of mass destruction, despite the fact that George Bush seems to think that the fact we haven't found any is proof that he has (?)!
I honestly don't think that the west hates Islam. It's just my opinion, but apart from the racist thugs who should be put away for a long time, I think that the West has shown Muslims a welcome with freedom to worship and live according to their tradition and the power to set up Islamic councils.
It could be popularity at home, but he's already more than popular in the States and since his last competitor to the White House (the one who actually won the election by virtue of having more votes) has pulled out of any future race, he's on to a winner for sure (ask Tony Blair, he has no opposition either).
What about his dad, or 'the powers that be'? I suppose this could be a factor, and this could be the driving force behind any of the other options, but I'm not sure.
Control of Oil? That sounds very reasonable as far as we gas guzzling westerners are concerned. One mention of oil prices and the financial markets go bananas. I think this is the most likely, but then again, I don't think I know very much so am willing to be told otherwise.
What do you think?
are we the only ones here :-?
i know its becaous of the oil
Voted "other" because the press and military need something to do now Afghanistan is out of the limelight. besides, it keeps the focus of attention away from the minor domestic issues the relevant governments haven't quite got around to yet.
Voted other. I think is a combination of Oil, because lets face it without Sadam access to oil will be easier, Weapons because the weapons Bush has have an expiry date and they HAVE to be used so that the money doesnt get wasted and the weapon people will get richer and Sadam he isnt an Angel anyways. Last but not least wars are made sometimes to distract the press and general public from politics.
An examnple when the terrorist group 17N was arrested in Greece some months ago, the media and press only talked about this issue. Nobody ever realised that electricity costs went up by 30% voted by the parliament. When the war against Afganistan was made, water rates were voted to go 10% up.
I am against every act of war and the bloodshed of innocent blood!
Oil, for sure....nearly the whole US goverment has major oil shares in various different companies.
If Saddam was that bad they'd have finished him off when he actually did something wrong (I.e. invade Kuwait). In actual fact the reason that George W.(anker) Bush want's to attack Iraq is cos he's a warmongering homo who get's a stiffy from dropping bombs on innocent defenceless people while at the same time accusing them of being terrorists and denying them the human rights to a fair trial to prove that they are not terrorists. Another reason is that America has still been selling weapons to Iraq and have actually wondered what the hell they have done with them (selling them on to even more disreputable people doesn't seem to have crossed their minds).
Bush want's a war that'll last a little while cos it costs lots of money to sort out your own country, but costs a lot less to ignore the problems at home and focus peoples attentions on killing thousands of people elsewhere.
Personally I'd pay more taxes and have a government that uses those taxes to sort out the NHS, public transport, education, and the homeless problems in my own country, rather than act like the worlds policemen.
A little message to the "world's policemen" out there:
Why bomb anyone, why did they bomb serbia, why is nato protecting terrorist in my country, why a known terrorist and a murderer is now a politician and a parlament member.
Dont get mi started on Nato and US issues.
My guess: oil,and war profits.
Or maybe mister Bush's sex life is not blossoming.
I don't see the point of bombing other countries on the idea that they are all terrorists, rather than find the terrorists in our own countries. I'm sure there are IRA members still willing to blow people up in the UK, but we'll ignore that to bomb Afghanistan, how clever.?.?.....?
I do not know if some of you have seen the ad on war that is runed by pacifists in the US.
It sais Let The Inspections Work.
On the other hand, is about :
Oil
Power
Control of the Region.
Please note also that Sadam is a dictator, and I as a Romanian had lived under dictature.....So depends on wich point of view you are looking at the issue.
Nevertheless..No Bombing mr. GWB
Hmm.. YOu guys are all reasonable with great opinions, and maybe facts, especially about Bush being a "warmongering homo" I agree with that 😃
Personally, I'm really pissed from Bush, what's with this guy? Is shooting people fun? in games maybe, cause you're hurting no one, but in reality you're splashing blood all over the place, your'e dropping tears and raising shouts and making big nitches in people's memories, and your'e screwing up neighbouring people's lives! It's gonna be crap if war breaks loose, cause the eastern province is close to Iraq, and last time Saddam was throwing missles on US bases here in Dhahran. And after he has some laughs by hitting iraq, he'll catch some dough from gas.
I know Saddam is an idiot, so is Bush, but the problem is, when two idiots fight the people are gonna get hurt, not them! Cause the people are just puppets getting moved by the leaders, i'm sure there's alot of americans not wanting to fight, and iraqies too, but all these false excuses and mass descruction what-ever planted the seeds of evil in their minds.
"sigh" I'm gonna go enjoy the beautiful weather today, it's really nice, it doesn't last long though, as winter is a month away from ending, so is peace..
Nato can't do anything without US giving them the OK.
the fate of the world is in the hands of an idiot...

The US Department of Energy announced at the beginning of this month that by 2025, US oil imports will account for perhaps 70 percent of total US domestic demand. (It was 55 percent two years ago.) As Michael Renner of the Worldwatch Institute put it bleakly this week, "US oil deposits are increasingly depleted, and many other non-Opec fields are beginning to run dry. The bulk of future supplies will have to come from the Gulf region." No wonder the whole Bush energy policy is based on the increasing consumption of oil. Some 70 percent of the worlds proven oil reserves are in the Middle East. And this forthcoming war isnt about oil?
Take a look at the statistics on the ratio of reserve to oil production the number of years that reserves of oil will last at current production rates compiled by Jeremy Rifkin in Hydrogen Economy. In the US, where more than 60 percent of the recoverable oil has already been produced, the ratio is just 10 years, as it is in Norway. In Canada, it is 8:1. In Iran, it is 53:1, in Saudi Arabia 55:1, in the United Arab Emirates 75:1. In Kuwait, its 116:1. But in Iraq, its 526:1. And this forthcoming war isnt about oil?

Have you read the above? then you do the Math. Personally, if this is the true reason for this looming war it is sickening. Though Saddam is no angel, if there is any punishment due him just punish him and not the Iraqi's who have suffered long enough from Saddam himself and the sanctions brought about by the invasion of Kuwait.
