Streaming on the P800 from an MMS teaser message

6 replies · 3,403 views · Started 16 January 2003

I have an MMS message that contains a teaser to an mpeg 4 streaming service.

When I open the attachment of the MMS the P800 doesnt know what to do with it - by this I mean it simply displays the whole link as text and I am unable to click it.

I would expect the P800 to launch the packet video and commence buffering and then display the mpeg4 any ideas?

You can only stream from PacketVideo streaming server (at least I don't know any other way). I'm fairly sure the clip is hosted on either Quicktime Streaming server or Real Network's server... Could you give us the address anyway?

This is all I've found about streaming. I wonder if we are ever going to see video streaming for P800 (except those live cams)...

You could ask your sysadmin what streaming server you use.

DISCLAIMER: The following is what I've learned after playing around with my P800. I have no idea if the information provided is correct or just plain ** 😊

This might be pretty obvious to some people, but did you make sure that your APN has access to your intranet? (some sort of personal dialup or gprs). Make sure UDP is not firewalled. I don't know what kind of MMS you received, but you should be able to see the actual URL in it. If it's something like http://myhost.mydomain/teaser.pvx or http://myhost.mydomain/teaser.sdp the P800 should open PV player. If the url is something like rtsp://myhost.mydomain/teaser.mp4 or http://myhost.mydomain/teaser.mp4 the P800 won't know what to do.

Basically you need to have a .pvx or .sdp "meta-file" on a webserver (check www.packetvideo.com/p800livecams ). The .pvx or .sdp has to point to a valid MPEG-4 video clip hosted on a PacketVideo streaming server (I have no idea how to make .pvx or .sdp files, so don't even ask 😊 ). Now you can send an SMS (maybe even MMS) to a P800 user. When the user reads the message, and clicks the link, P800 should switch to PV player and start streaming the video.

If you just want to see the clip, you could just transfer the file to P800 and play it locally 😊

The url was of the rtsp variety.
I have no problem with the streaming server as I can stream to the Nokia phone using an MMS teaser using the Real One player.

I tried to install the Real One player for a 7650 on the P800 but it failed.
Would you know if there is a compatible P800 Real One player available?

Maybe you don't have a problem with streaming server, but your P800 might have 😊 . The post at ericsson.com mobilityworld (the link in my 1st post) tells me (or maybe I'm just misinterpreting it) that you *have* to use PacketVideo Streaming server to get streming working. Since you

Obviusly 7650 (Symbian) software won't work on P800, since P800 uses UIQ (Symbian 7.0). We can only hope that Real Networks ports RealOne for UIQ, or that someone ports Helix DNA for UIQ ( https://symbian.helixcommunity.org/status.html ). ATM our only choice for streaming video is PacketVideo's client/server.
