it is *REAL* I made it with my phone
BUT please don't ask me HOW I did it, it's a long and dangerous process (it involves editing a system file, and it's not a nice thing to do)
If any developer out there wants to contact me to make a freeware little program that can edit this system file and allow all six palettes to be used on a v04.xx phone please contact me 😉
what file is it, I will try myself, I generally know what I am doing!!!! ( famous last words! )
WTF 😮 😃
Meeee toooo want that 😃
Bwaaaahh
😃 😃
This is really amazing.
But how come its related to firmware 4.XX???
1st) please wait a couple of days... no more 😉
2nd) it is related to v04.xx because these palettes (and the method of "hiding" avalaible ones) has been introduced in v04.xx
I first discovered it when a friend sent me a full backup of a Vodafone Live! v04.37 handset so I'm not sure it is present in releases previous to that one (but why not? 😃) ... only thing I am sure is it doesn't exist on v03.12 and v03.16
by wrongly modifying that system file you could render the phone unusable, so it is a BIG risk 😮
hey faquick. if u read my posts i want this file damn bad. plz tell me how to do it or mail me the file man. i really like colour themes i even made a post on it and god knows . i do have 3.12 but i guess u are genuis enough to make it for me as well. thanks
This might sound harsh, but I dont understand why faquick is happily trading warez....but doesnt want to trade this kind of information. Or is it just me?
i do have 3.12 but i guess u are genuis enough to make it for me as well. thanks
I am sorry
first, I'm no genius 😮ops: I am just a "hacker" who loves to 'play' with tech tools 😉
second, unfortunately I think it's technically impossibile to have more color palettes in firmwares v03.xx
I will explain: my "hack" exploits a NEW, NON DOCUMENTED addition in phone configuration. I discovered that one when trying to find differences between my "old" v03.12 and a newer phone, with VodafoneLive! v04.37. I tried to apply that modifications to v03.12 but ended up with just application crashes and system errors while trying to apply it. Then I upgraded my phone to v04.39 and tried it again: this time it worked! A friend of mine tried the same on her v03.16 and it gave same app.errors. So I think it's been included AFTER v03.16 ... I think it has been included in all v04.xx because of the major version (03 -> 04) change 😉
also... anyone here with v04.xx with xx < 37 ? I think I have seen people talking about v04.18 and others here... so, please contact me via PM or email (faquick AT despammed DOT com) and when I'll have the program I can send a "beta" to you to be tested with that release (so we can "block" if from making bad things in releases where it won't work). But I'm quite sure that all v04.xx will work 😉
I dont understand why faquick is happily trading warez
Please kindly tell me what kind of "WAREZ" I am trading, so I will know it too. Only thing I can remember is a little "hack" for Hantro v1.0 ... that I didn't repost anymore after AAER6 became AAS.
I am ABSOLUTELY not "warez"ing programs at all. I think it's not fair in respect to developers to crack or redistribute illegally their softwares.
so PLEASE tell me.. thank you
Faquick I will come to you in private for this and I withdraw my comments because I dont think that this will lead soomewhere! Expect a PM!
ok one last thing from me:
I am sorry if I "launched" this and then didn't tell you how. I hope you will forgive me, all I am asking is just a little patience. I promised, if we won't be able to do such a program in 1-2 days, I will tell you all the long and boring and dangerous process to do 😉
I thought a lot before posting this piece of news. But I needed a "broad" way to contact developers to help me with this project. My intentions were (and are) the most good possible. I didn't mean to say "see what I have done gne gne gne you don't know how and I do!! gne gne gne! I am better than youuu!" but just to let you know this is possible and will be even EASY to do in a couple of days.
I remember when I posted info about operator logo changing. A lot of questions arose, and somebody found some problems in doing that. So, this time I thought: well, let's find the way to make this simpler 😉
I am also preparing a "technical" sort of "white paper" to better explain what's "behind" this. I will probably distribute that together with program and maybe source code too (I will have to discuss this with programmer/s). The info's I wrote down are quite incomplete too. So, instead of waiting 1 day for me to prepare that "whitepaper" just wait 2 days for the program 8)
So are u going to make some sort of application, patch or instructions? Where does the 3rd party developer get in the whole topic? And the question since there are developers in the middle....will it cost?
Ok, will wait. patiently. Not 😃
In my post, the one that started this thread, I wrote:

Please note the key word: freeware: it's the 13th word inside the above sentence 😃
And YES, I am "in talk" with developer(s). Name(s) will remain a secret forever (due to an agreement between us) but the program will be free and avalaible for everyone. I will post it for download once it will be completed. If someone with v04.xx wants to beta-test it please PM me (or email, but don't use the email button on this site because (I don't know why) I can't receive email messages sent from here... address is faquick AT despammed DOT com)
LOL, ok sorry I didnt see that! I was bussy PMing you 😊
LOL, ok sorry I didnt see that! I was bussy PMing you 😊
yes, me too :P
anyway... things are clear now 😉 nobody warez's anything here! let's keep helping symbianOS to proliferate... and keep supporting software houses 😉
Hi all again!!
I need the help of people with firmware revision between 04.00 and 04.38
Please send an email to: (please use a normal mail client, don't use function "send mail" from my profile since it doesn't work)
or send me a PM writing in the body your email address
😉
Great Job faquick.I just hope all ends well.
hrmm I still say this would be possible on 3.xx
granted ima lil passionate about that because im on 3.16 or something
But like all themes and skins of anysoftware its all just set in a file such as
RGB(255,0,255) etc
that specifies the colour of the objects that can be skinned or that change when you change color.
In any event I have not the time or money to spend emailing myself all these files, to run through and check them, but as a themer and designer I still say its a possibility. So I hope in the next cpl of days you might possibly shed some light on what you have learnt about certain files.
Osiris, I'm not saying that "tweaking" palettes is absolutely impossible on v03.xx
I am just saying that predefined ones are only Blue, Purple and Green inside v03.xx firmwares. In v 04.xx they added Red, Pink and Orange but didn't make them all selectable. They "unlock" just one of them, according to specific operator requests.
What we have been able to manage, is a little "hack" to be able to choose all the avalaible palettes. Nothing less, nothing more. And instead of telling you a dangerous way to modify system files, we well be providing with a nice program file that will make this operation VERY simple 😉

nice, very nice... and faquick, you did mention the word free, right...? 😉
😊 hoping Faquick to do some miracle on 3.XX as well 😃
😊 hoping Faquick to do some miracle on 3.XX as well 😃
I think it would be really a miracle  versions 03.xx just ignore that setting, so there are definitively only 3 palettes inside... the questions stays open, on how to eventually "tweak" the phone to create new palettes. But unfortunately I don't know how to do that  and I also think it is almost impossible.
btw, you have FTD, we have palettes. I think it's fair. Isn't it? 😃
Vodaphone live 4.36 has a red palette, but I dont have the phone available any more so cant try the mod.
3.xx will never have this app because 4.xx is blessed with the hidden pattletes. See all this app does is unlock those hidden palletes. 3.xx never has those hidden palletes to begin with so there obvioulsy nothin to unlock.
But weather the files could be trasfered is anyones guess.
I still say we need to look for the RGB settings in the files, there in there somewhere, these themes are nothign more then rgb values over selected objects, lets uope we can find them.
I still say we need to look for the RGB settings in the files, there in there somewhere
IMHO they are probably "embedded" in some DLLs or similar kind of files. So it will be difficult to find them. If these settings were in some configuration file somebody would have found them, don't you think so?
anyway, I have 04.39 since just a couple of days, so I still have to "investigate" deeper, and if I find anything else I will tell you 😉
thnks Faquick great job!! 😃
can your finding be embedded into theme manager programms like active desktop or something like it faquick .... still hoping that you can do something for v3.xx as well
hrmm why would you assume just because no one has found where it is in those files that it isnt there?
WindowsXP has been out for over a year and ppl are still finding new customising tricks with that
Windows Media Player 9 has been readily available for over 6 months and ppl are just starting to customise that.
I just had a thought that on 3.xx phones the RGB settings we seek, may be set up on z: so even if we found the system file they are stored in, we cant change it anyway.
hrmm why would you assume just because no one has found where it is in those files that it isnt there?
I used to assume that because NO software house already came out with a "Colors"-like program... and since they would make big money with such a program it's IMPOSSIBLE they didn't even try to find a way... if there was, they would already have done it 😉
Now I have some more "insight" knowledge and I talked with developers... in fact not only palettes are inside Z: but it is almost impossible to have the system look somewhere else to find palettes... so either we "hack" the phone ROM and re-flash with new palettes, or... we keep what they give us
