Hi all,
I just got one of these things after a mate decided he didnt like it and went back to a SE w850i, i swapped him mine (for his mother) and 140, which i was pretty pleased with.
Anyway, the last S60 device i had was a 6600, previous to that, an N-Gage.
And they both had 1 thing in common, i could just put in a search for some cool apps, and install them, and there were no worries.
This on the other hand, everything i try it either comes up with "Installation of *Software name* is not supported" or "Certificate Expired"
The only things ive actually managed to get installed are Java games, and Mobile G-Maps.
Is there a good reason for this?
you need to turn off the option to only allow signed apps for install.
tools>app mgr>settings>software installation - *all*
And, the certificate expired error can be circumvented by changing your system date back to somewhere within when the certificate was valid (trial and error works - start of with a year in the past is a good bet)
Both of these have been discussed numerous times on this forum.
The other reason stuff isn't working is because S60 v3 isn't compatible with v1 and v2. So all the cool stuff you had before won't work unless it's been recoded for v3. Check which version of an application you're trying to install. Most stuff now comes in v1/v2 and v3 versions.
Ahh i see,
Strangely the application settings are already set to all, so im not quite sure why im having so many problems with it.
Could be that they're v1/2 i suppose, is much available in v3 yet?
Most entries on Handango indicate whether an application is v1/v2 or v3 ("3rd edition"😉. Personally, I'm not missing much that I used to have on my v1 phone. I'd say 70% of the major titles have been ported over.
Apart from Handy Dates. Are you listening, Epocware?
Well, that's what you get for going to pirate sites.
So, what you're saying is that for absolutely nothing, i got some, but not all of what i wanted?
Terrible that, i'd best start paying for everything _

If you download the Symbian 3rd Edition versions of Apps from reputable websites, the apps have a 99.999% chance of installing with no problems.
If you download Apps from rapidshare or torrents you may receive older (Symbian 1st & 2nd Edition versions) or hacked SIS files where the certificate has expired.
mate i got loads and loads of free software ask jeeves or google there are loads and loads of sites out there 😊 seriously just look a bit harder
youll be well happy this phone is great apart from the very poor battery life get ready for desktop charger and spare battery 😊
I have many great apps on this phone which are freeware. Things like gmaps, shozu, spodtronic (internet radio), y-browser, calcium (better calculator).
