Navicore 2007 now available for E90

I popped along to the Navicore site last night and was surprised to find an updated version of Navicore 2007 UK & Ireland available which lists the E90, N95 & 6110 Navigator as selectable phones. So I tried installing it onto my new E90 and it installed without much hassle.

This version has full support for the internal GPS (and is quite happy to share the GPS data with other apps running at the same time) and seems to be quite happy switching between internal and external screen.

When running on the external screen it looks pretty much identical to the standard S60 version but when running on the internal screen you have the option of displaying a data panel on the left hand side of the screen that can show various information like position or satellite while still showing the map on the left. (I think they copied this idea from the S80 version)

I have run into one slight snag that I've contacted navicore about. If I use a predefined wifi connection to try updating the Traffic or Speed camera subscriptions then the phone immediately crashes and reboots, but if I use GPRS or create a temporary Easy WLAN connection then it works fine.

Hopefully they can get this problem sorted out quickly, but still as it stands it's nice to have a working alternative to Maps especially with the bundled traffic and speed camera support.

Hey there. Did you resolve this rebooting issue?

I get the same except it happens with any access point I use 😞

There is a simple solution actually and I'm rather embarassed that I didn't post it here earlier. Sorry.

The basic problem seems to be that Navicore doesn't like to use any Access Points created before Navicore was installed. Which is why some access points were working for me and some weren't.

To get round this problem, the best trick I've found is to go into
Tools/Settings/Connection/Access Points
Then press Option/Duplicate access point for every Access Point you might want to use with Navicore.

Then you can delete the original versions of the Accees Points, rename the new ones to have the same name as the old ones (should be just removing a number from the end) and then you should be able to connect in Navicore without problem.

Course an even better solution would be for someone to fix Navicore to actually work properly but my guess is that Navicore has been abandonned in favour of Wayfinder since Navicore's parent company got taken over and I don't fancy changing over to Wayfinder until it stops needing a GPRS/3G connection to do even the most basic route calculation.

I'm also looking for a Navigation app that uses the internal GPS and doesn't need GPRS connection or something like that.

It seems that Navicore is such an application so I was wondering if there is a trial version of it available?

The best would be if TomTom made a version of there wonderful software that works with the E90 (and thus with the internal/external screen switch and gps)
IMO TomTom is still the best nav software around!
