I better whack my head against a Wall - Anyone's help needed (Start Over the N80)

I am sorry to break into your forum with this. But I wish this could also be of help for everyone which is passing such troubles as me.

There was a time in which me and my black N80 IE were good friends, and we had established a mutual relationship of trust.

But eventually something started degrading and from one day, everything went all wrong. All began when I tried to restore a backup. But then one major misdeed happened when I tried QuickOffice Premier, neither I could tell you how bad it was for me that I couldn't be back to the original QuickOffice but only Nokia's WebSite flawed version.

In the meantime I also lost the original Nokia LifeBlog app. loaded in the out-of-the-box phone and the restore app messed up my voice commands. Anyhow the main problem which led me to go ahead was the Wi-Fi browsing which was appalling. Apparently there is a software glitch in v 4.0707.0.7 which doesn't allow you to use more than 1 mW for Transmission (Tx) even if you have manually set to use full power of 100 mW. But the real irritating problem was the scanner and the Wi-Fi presence which was repeatedly found and lost in full coverage area within few meters in line-of-sight from the Wi-Fi antenna.

So I went on the forums and started reading about a hard way to reset the Phone. And I supposedly found it: the 7370 keycomb did it's works and I ended up with a software reset that did delete everthing and not reinstalled anything ! (Did I mention that I lost the original QuickOffice and LifeBlog apps?) That's a pity. But the worst has no limits and after a more aggressive reset keycomb while switching on the Phone it lost even more code.

I now hold an N80 which doesn't have anymore the features that could still qualify it as an Internet Edition: apart from QuickOffice and LifeBlog I no more have the desktop WLan scanner and also the WLan Wizard they are both gone ! I wonder what else my N80 could lose. Perhaps the next reset it will lose some key button...

My phone is (or was?) a N80 Internet Edition (N80-1)
Here's what *#0000# says about:

V 4.0707.0.7
20-03-2007
RM-92
Nokia N80 (555.01)

What can I do?

I am just willing to be given another opportunity, I want my N80 exactly the same way as I got when it was new. I wanna have a chance to start over again. I need the re-flash the Phone with the original firmware or whatever was installed when it was brand new.

But else, I would like to give a try with the new firmware v5, but the Nokia updater said there is NO updated firmware for me. And I also needed to Hijack the original NSU cause it won't update itself stopping with installation script error.

I don't know anything about country codes in Nokia Phones and relationship with them and firmware version, It would be helpful if someone would clear up things.

Many many Thanks in advance for any help provided. This matter really makes me willing to whack my head against.... a wall 😞

I did forget to mention among the others I lost Adobe Reader. I know these apps are already present in the Nokia's N80 IE Support Page, but for my experience they are not the same version as they were in my original out-of-the-box phone. Maybe this one could, have to check first.

The phones cant lose any ROM application. So all application part of ROM phone are still there (only if the phone have serious issue, and on that case it should go to a Nokia Service).
Even so, you can do the upgrade process, with same version that you already have and the phone became as original, and the ROM applications goes to the same original places.
Now, if you have an network lock version, maybe there is not any new firmware version, on other case the last one is v.5.0719.0.2 from 24-05-2007, IEdition.

So the IE suite of WLan scanner, WLan Wizard, Adobe Reader, Lifeblog, QuickOffice are not part of the original ROM. Once you hard reset they disappear.

But flashing the same firmware over the Phone is not allowed by the Nokia Software Updater. I was hoping that. And probably bacause of my Phone's country code (0544278) it doesn't show any update available for my N80 IE V 4.0707.0.7

Is the NSU the same Nokia Software Update ?

Can you please point out the procedure I have to follow ?
Cause so far the only option I have is to check for firmware update, and once the check is done (and no update is available) the only choice is to exit the app.

Thank you.

Yes, NSU - Nokia Software Updater.
It let flash the same firmware version. The way of all that works, is an auto process... next... next...

I dont think so. I use NSU on my native language and in English and both acts the same. Do you have the latest version?

I've found the solution, It was stuck with country code.

I had to switch to another (Euro) code and then the app presented the new v5 firmware update and once done the possibility to reflesh the ROM...

My phone was destined to the German market so I think the original code.

Just to inform you all. My N80 is going straight to a service point for repair.

Symptoms: Most fo the time It wasn't able to spot a Wi-Fi network.

Solutions: not yet... and it's not beginning very well.

P.s.: seeking for assistance in Italy

You need to format or use a N95. Nokia need ot realise that stability and speed is key.
