I have searched through the forum and still can't find the answer to this so apologies if i have missed this.
I can't get a signal or never have, i understand there is a ver 12 but not available on orange and also noticed some peolpe have perfect access to gps on the previous versions anyway...
What if anything can i do to get a signal, as i have taken it down the seafront on a sunny day and pointed it at the right angle with full battery......
Thanks and apologies if i missed this.
Provide more info.
- Slide open?
- For how long did you wait (..first time fix can take a long time, 30 minutes..)?
- Settings in "Positioning methods", "integrated GPS" only?
- Verify if/that you only had the "X" marker beside the dish (lower right corner) in Maps application. If you saw some "😉)" you had a lock but maybe did not press the "GPS position" key (top right).

Tried for about 20 mins i would say, slide open as in phone open, yes.
Had the x next to the dish yes, does the gps positon key help?
Also if i wait longer than half an hour does this mean if it works it will be alot quicker next time if it works?
Cheers mate
First time fix can take up to 30 minutes so I would advice you to take a chair, some coffee, sit down and wait.
And Yes, after you had the first time fix it should get a lot faster (1-3 min) but I still experience some problems, randomly/on occation, on getting a fix at all even after the "FTF" when my handset was on firmware 10.x and 11.x. After I upgraded to 12.x (with support for A-GPS) I've never have had any problem and always get a fix within 30 secs (usually in less than 15 secs!!!).
And No, the "GPS pos" key does not help as long as you have the "X" next to the dish. It was just a thought as some users had "accidentally" browsed the maps and then (since the didn't saw their own position...) enterprited it as they did not had a GPS lock.

Yes! Debrand and upgrade to Ver 12!

Not trying to be funny but a search will do the trick!
Im on orange and it got a lock within about 5 mins the first time.
i just opened it up and left it on my window ledge and chencked every few mins etc.
I know Ive just posted this reply on another thread but incase you where not watching that one. I never had a problem with the GPS I wondered what all the trouble is with getting a fix. Im on Orange as well.
It was only after firmware update I noticed, I tried using tracker and it was taking for ever so I shut it down and tried the GPS Data Progrm and got a fix in a short time. I was also in olfine mode at the time but that was to save battery life.
I dont know how the software works on this, does each piece of software have its own GPS Driver? So initial fixes could take diffrent time spans?
Or is the processor struggling with running maps and GPS at the same time? MP3 player and other apps might have same effect as well, has any one else observed this or am I reading to much into this?
If any on is struggling using ONLY the GPS is worth a try anyhow, just to get that first fix.
I regularly us mine in my pocket with the slide closed. Ok its not a great fix but its good enough for me. It struggles in your pocket slide closed in a car! But tracker still lets you know where you where drinking last night!
It also struggles with its first fix if it is moving but that is expecting alot from the processor, you have to remeber its only a phone!
Best
Gerrit

Launch the Nokia Maps application, then leave it in view of a clear sky with the slider opened for 30 minutes.
If you don't get a GPS signal after that amount of time, your N95 is probably faulty.
