sms message not lost after pressing the red button

I have an N73. I use the standard SMS software a lot, and with T9, i type quite fast. Sometimes when i need to push the 3, i push the red button, and then: Gone message. No way to retrieve it, no warning if I really want to exit, etc. With my 6230, i could simply go back to the message i was typing, but the N73 deletes the message after pushing the red button. Is there any way to change this, so that when i press the red button my mistake, i don't have to retype my message?
