Hello guys,
new here...
i am seriously considering this small and great S60 device. i know screen is not big and it does not have wifi. but otherwise i would not consider this phone...
does anybody own already the 6120 classic? if yes it would be very much appreciated to hear about personal feelings and experiences with it. i can continue reading different reviews on various sites, but they all sound very similar.
thanks a lot
oops...forgot a question: firmware updates can be done at home right?
I have a 6120 Classic and I must say I am very pleased with it! I've got in free with 3 so you can get free msn over 3G which works very nicely.
Calls and texting etc are all good as you would expect.
It turns on in.. well.. i'll time it 😊... Took 25seconds to bring up the standby screen (doesn't feel like a terribly long time or anything).
Once it's on, the phone is totally ready to be used - the menu is quick n snapy from the get go.
The Silver navigational button thing is a bit stiff in my opinion but works perfectly well.
Um.. camera takes nice photos, very much better than my old 6600.
Is compatible with Nokia Maps which is cool - free download from smart2go. (no GPS of course, but i just downloaded the data and stuck it on the memory card).
Anything specific you want to know?
Firmware: Yes they can (no that there have been any released)
thanks a lot for the info. well, the only thing that would keep me away from it is the small screen. i mean, being smaller but with the same resolution like the others, i suppose everything is really sharp and nice. but what about reading text messages or using applications which have loads of information on the screen?
have you used the browser? i know it uses the same source code like apples safari (as in the iphone), so it must be a fantastic experience. but again, the screen is not much of help.
music: is the music player a good one? the most important thing for me is the volume. if the volume is low as in some UIQ devices (like p990i, w950 etc.) then it's not worth it.
video: i read that the video player is very good as well. can you play QVGA size 30fps videos? would be great
it is HSDPA compatible (which is lacked in n73) 😊

I"ve wondered about that screen myself... I briefly owned an e50, and thought the screen was too small. I remember there was text that seemed to have vertical lines that only used one pixel width! 😊 I have good eyesight, but I thought that was too small (especially after an n73, at that time).
I know the 6120 classic supports scalable fonts, but I have to wonder how quickly the screen would strain one's eyes, especially if using the web browser. I saw the comparison shot to the e61; I use and e61, and I can't imagine cramming that same screen dimension into such a small device.
I guess it's a tradeoff -- small form factor necessitates the small screen!
The screen size isn't something I would even consider as an issue, I've never thought of it as one till I just read this and having just picked up my phone to check, i think it's perfectly fine! 😊
I've got good eyesight, but I don't think the texts that much different to any other phone!
I've used the browser a (very) little and it seems fine. I'm sitting at work atm and have seen the ole 3.5g symbol for the first time today - well yesterday actually but anyway 😊. I've not used the browser enough for my experience of it to be taken too much to heart although again, certainly not bad!
Not used the music player, don't want to waste the ole battery.
I honestly don't think the screen's that small! Maybe the black colouring disgises it somewhat I dunno, doesn't feel small to me.
Just for a little annecdote - I met my mate the other day and got my phone out and he said "ooo, new phone! Look's pretty nice with the metal round the edges", then once having picked it up was very positive about its weight and size and didn't say anything about small screen or text.
Anyway, hope that helps.
i thought for some time to replace my n73 with the 6120. reasons:
greatly reduced weight:icon14:
slim and slender:icon14:
decent camera, (the 3.2mp in n73 isnt that good either)
same os as n73, s60 3rd ed, same GUI
"C" is moved up the keypad- EXCELLENT position compared to 'bottom' position in n73:icon14: :icon14:
absolutely NO MOVING PARTS!!!(n73 has a camera lid sliding):icon14::icon14:
miniUSB (no more "ridiculously costly" nokia cables, if cable is damaged/lost):icon14: :icon14:
'acceptable' battery life
screen size:icon13:
i would definitely have done the switch from my n73. but the 'screen size' is the only factor that stopped me. i just love the HUGE screen of n73. and seemed 'brighter' than 6120 to me. moreover i use my phone for GPS navigation(tomtom). so the bright big screen does really help.
i'm still waiting for something else to come up.

the...ehm...nokia N81 or N82?
nokia 6120 is really classic. light weight with all the functions of N70 and N73. its really good and good looking too.
but the only problem with this i experienced is , i tried to install some .sis extencion programmes, but not supporting. any body has any idea about this?
Im really interested in buying.
Havent owned a Nokia since the 6610. Moved on to Windows smartphones and PDA's. My Cingular 8525 just broke for no reason, no warranty help either. I remember dropping my 6610 all the time and it falling into a bunch of pieces. I would pick em up and snap them back together. Toughest phone ever. Owned 8 WM phones to date. None have handled the bumps as my Nokia did. What I like about the 6120 is it's size plus the UI is soo much better. More applications and freedom. My only concern is if tomtom 6 will work w/ it.

did i mention that 6120 is way cheaper than those above mentioned 🙄
It has the same size screen as the 6110 navigator, which is fine for satnav viewing. For me at least.
And while not supported, tomtom runs on almost any S60 V3 device, as long as you have a bluetooth GPS unit.
I have the 6120, on 3.
Started out with some problems of being unable to talk or hear the caller and also had a problem with the Media Player but have since done a soft reset and all seems to be progressing nicely.
Not too fussed about the screen as I have not had an N-Series so I am used to the smaller screen.
Only thing that has happened is that the D-Pad has cracked on one side but this is not affecting the usage. I will get it changed if it gets worse (thanks insurance 😊 ).
Installed Nokia Maps and a few games. I do like the fact that it has auto keypad locking built in as this one one of my core apps I downloaded previously.
Battery is pretty poor though and you cannot disable 3G (I assuem this is a "3" thing). I get between 1 and 3 days at the moment, but this is improving. I maybe that the battery is just conditioning itself. Not tried with BT headset and where the 3250 was ok as a Music Player I have come to the conclusion that I am not that fussed about the Media Player on the phone.
Last thing have tried to create some video files and use the Novia Video Manager but all I get is sound out. This is quite frustrating but I will keep trying. The Download! PC Beta is a handy addition if you don't have a data plan which I don't have on 3 yet.
This is nice! Coming from 4 yrs of Windows Mobile phones, I dig this handset.
Here's my critic:
1) The screen isnt as small as ppl make it out to be. Look at the pics of it next to the Motorola SLVR. Even though the Moto is skinnier (by 1mm), the 6120 classic has a larger screen. So that solves that gripe.
2) I like how user can select what to display for the soft keys. WM handsets only allow you to have a Start and Contacts (unless using a Registry Editor, can Nokia use one?).
3: One complaint so far, is that the phone doesn't recognize the SIM contacts at first startup, but whatever, once it registers em to the phone contacts, problem solved.
4: Second complaint is to Cingular/AT&T, " Give me 3G in my area and start supporting Video Calls!!!"
5:This phone is really fast, as fast as ppl say.\! No experience w/ the N series, but plenty experience with Intel Arm processors. Now I'm off to set up Tomtom 6 on it. Here's pics:
Have had the phone now for one week and I love it:
- Great screen. Small but the whole thing is small. Very clear though.
- Very small and light. "Put it pocket and forget" size unlike my (otherwhise great) HTC Wizard
- Very fast!
- Good battery life in proportion to size.
- A lot of apps built-in.
- Nice (but not great) camera.
Two problems:
- Vibration only works in General profile. Anyone noticed?
- The intensity of the backlighting starts to vary quickly when connected to the charger. Sometimes also without being charged.
:icon4: Can anyone else please confirm this before I consider it a hardware flaw and switch mine under warranty? Thank you in advance.
I have set the brightness of the screen to the bare minimum. It is still very bright at that.
Have to set Silent as profile during day (dont like ringtones going off in public) and it still vibrates. Check your settings for Silent mode.
I had a 8125 Wizard and traded in for 8525. Loved the 8125, but your right, it's a big brick. The 8525 was lighter and smaller but had soooo many bugs in it.
The 6120 classic is superb, Im sure you'll be happy with it for a very long time.
Thank you!
Vibration works now. Strange...
So, if you put your phone on the charger the backlight stays constant?
Yes, it can defenately replace my Wizard, except for the qwert ofcourse... I use it a lot already. Only miss the ability to copy an appointment and paste it on other days. Can only copy text, no whole items I guess.
Just had mine, and i must say that i really like it 😊 cheers
only had it a few days, and was just getting used to the buttons, when last night, in the dark at about 1am, i accidentally plugged the power adapter into the headphone jack. it was dark. i guess whats what i did, as the screen lit up very brightly for a nano second, and then nothing. one blown back light. the phone still works, just no light for the screen. and i'd just bought a 4Gb microSd card for it too...
happy with it untill my own stupidity kicked in... hopefully get a like for like swap out...

What did you do? Vibrate only works in 'general' for me too, despite settings.
Help please anyone! I have a question re 6120c&bluetooth.Even tho I paired the car stereo and phone fine, every time I receive or make a call it asks me on the phone whether I should take it on the phone or bluetooth device? There must be a setting somewhere that it automatically goes through the bluetooth stereo when the device is pared with the phone? Can anyone help?I have a SEw660i as well and once paired with the car stereo the calls goe through it without having to refer to the phone. This is really causing me to pull my hair out!
