Major problems!

Hi all,

Right, i've got a T-Mobile (UK) Nokia N95, today i've backed everything up and debranded the handset, everything went perfectly.

Other than...

All of my messages and applications were stored on the memory card (2gb), however, one of my Java apps (faceparty to go - i don't even use it!) seems to have got corrupted, i can't remove it, it says 'removing failed'. I have tried to find the file by browsing the card and i'm 99% sure i've deleted it that way.

So, i need to remove the reference to it on the menu.

I've tried pretty much everything without any luck, normally, i'd just format the memory card but i've got over 2300 messages on there that i can't afford to lose, the phone also hasn't offered for me to copy them to the phone memory.

It's essential that i don't lose the messages, they have a lot of value to them.

Hopefully, you'll be able to help.

Thanks,

Macmini.

Oh yeah, forgot to add.

I can't reinstall the app either because the website to download it from now says that my phone isn't compatible!

.

If you attach the N95 to PC using the USB Cable and select Mass Storage Mode, you should be able to scan the memory card for *.JAD and *.JAR files. Delete the Faceparty app, then when close Mass Storage mode, the app will no longer be installed. If it still shows in the Menu's I am afraid I would recommend re-formatting the internal memory with *#7370#

I have always found that almost all Java apps need reinstalled using PC Suite after a firmware change.

Put your mem card in a card reader. Browse for all the files that reference the app to remove. Save the .JAD and .JAR files to your PC. delete any reference on you mem card (doesn't do any harm to check the phone mem as well using mass storage mode. Remember you will have to have all your hidden file unhidden to be on the safe side). Put the card back in the phone and reinstall from the .JAD/.JAR files. Keep your apps on the phone to avoid this problem when doing future updates.
Plus save a copy of your installation files on the PC.

Are you sure you mean the Phone (Internal) memory?
Mass Storage mode only shows the memory card contents.

PC Suite however, does show the Internal memory but doesn't allow accessing of hidden and system folders.

Already said many times here:

If you DE-BRAND your phone to install the "genuine Nokia Firmware":

NEVER RESTORE A BACK-UP, MADE BY PREVIOUS BRANDED FIRMWARE

Due to some modifications to the firmware made by the operators, some thingies are NOT COMPATIBLE with the genuine Nokia-firmware, and can cause troubles when restored!

Work-around: reïnstall the latest firmware, and dont't use the back-up . . .

Your contacts can be backed-up to the memory-card:

Contacts -> Options -> Mark ALL -> Copy -> to Memory Card

When your firmware has been updated, you can restore your contacts . . .

All the programs you'll have to reïnstall . . .

Success
