Hi,
I am facing couple of problems in my SE 990i.
1. The alarm rings automatically many times a day and inspite of using "done", it still keeps on ringing atleast 4-5 times before switching off. Again after this it starts ringing automatically later on.
2. The mobile restarts sometimes
To solve this, i am thinking of upgrading the firmware of my mobile. However, after installing the latest version of PC suite from sonyericsson.com/support, i tried using the "update service " button on the PC suite but it didn't run saying that the "update service software is not installed". Kindly guide me as to how i can i go about doing firmware upgrade of my mobile.
Thanks
Prashant
Download the update service setup program.... it should be downloadable from sony's support website.
Hi,
I used the 'update service' software to upgrade the P990 but even it didn't help to resolve the problem i am facing with ALARM. The alarm arbitrarily starts on its own any time during the day without any specific pattern.
Kindly advice what can be done in this situation. Can i completely reinstall the operating system of the mobile to resolve this issue.
Is it possible to put a generic firmware on the P990i? As time has all O2 Themes / Wallpapers?
To be able to reinstall OS maybe you could try formatting the internal disk. Access the service menu with the following key combination:
jog dial UP
*
jog dial DOWN
jod dial DOWN
*
jog dial DOWN
*
You'll see 'Format internal disk' as an option. This probably should be done with caution as you could risk bricking your phone. After that you should be able to use SEUS again.
A word of caution about updates. Several including myself have recently done an update, and we cannot restore from my backup. We are told the backup is not compatible with the phone. S/E are strangely silent on the matter, and have not responded to anyone with an answer. My update was done at an official S/E service center, and they cannot do anything.
It's a better backup plan to synchronize your email, calendar and contacts with Microsoft Outlook and additionally use the built-in Calendar and Contacts applications' Manager menu to backup those data to memory-stick. For your SMS's, you could always forward them to another phone (one by one :mad😊. There's a move to SIM function, but I can't seem to get it to work.
The alarm problem is a known glitch in the software.
The phone would restart sometimes if it starts running low on system resources for better stability. Remember its a PDA / pocket PC and not just a cell phone. This is normal and nothing to worry about unless it happens evey now and then. Just make sure that you don't load the phone with lots of software.😊
The backup problem is also a known issue. Usually if you delete the old backups and start a new one it will go through.
