Author Notes:

Finally it's possible to send your friends with "normal" Nokia mobile phones, photos you shot with your Nokia Smartphone - easily via SMS. Just convert any image to a monochrome Nokia picture message using PhotoSMS and send it via SMS to another phone.

Did you ever take some pictures with Nokia Smartphone and you did not have the chance send them to your family or your friends, because they don't have such a new MMS-compatible mobile phone? That won't be a problem no more! Just convert any image to a monochrome Nokia picture message using PhotoSMS and send it via SMS to another phone.

Because of the real-time conversion you are able to change the conversion parameters (contrast, brightness, edge detection) and the output could be seen immediately. You can also use the zoom function to convert smaller display details.

There are so many different possibilities to use this creative software. There not only humans, animals or artefacts to convert you may use also symbols and graphics, e.g. just draw a symbol on a white paper, take a picture of it, convert it to a picture message and send it to your friends! You have so much possibilities! Get more out of your Nokia Smartphone!

Features:

Converts every image or photo into a Nokia picture message
Real-time conversion - See it while you?re changing it.
Brightness and sharpness are adjustable
Use the zoom function to convert image details
Saved picture will be put into the "Picture msgs" folder in the image folder of your Nokia 7650

I've been looking forward to something like this.
Colour screen phones are not so widespread here.
It would be nice to share your photos with a friend ho has a regular phone.

Well dont get high hopes just yet...I tried this and it is absolutely useless in my opinion of course. The black and white pic that it creates are mostly unviewable. I would expect better result for such a price.

I still haven't tried it,i got all excited because the screenshots that Rafe posted are looking quite promising.
Can you post screenshots PhotoSMS in action?

i tried to to the same precedure on my pc to send picture smms throus smart sms and yes it is vey dificult ot convert right the picture 😞

Hello!

I agree that it is not so easy to convert images into small black and white pictures. Please note that usually images that you are trying to convert are huge (640x480/24 bits) in comparison with picture message format (72x28/2 bits). Because of that original image quality is very important. Especially images shouldnt contain shadows; object should be clear and photographed on a solid background; also lighting conditions should be good.

Quite good results you can find at www.aikon.ch (direct: www.aikon.ch/7650/reviews/sw_review.php3?softwareid=203)

We are currently working on improvements of image processing in PhotoSMS.
Please let me know what do you think about manual editing of converted picture and what objects do you usually converting (faces, pets etc). Also any other remarks are welcome and will be very helpful.

Best regards

I just saw the screenshots on aikon.ch and i think they are quite good.
I guess that you can get solid picture message from an image with good ligting conditions.

I'm downloading it right now,thanks Muffy 😃
One more thing,i think that PhotoSMS is a good idea, and with some improvements it could turn out to be quite good product.

We have just released a new version of PhotoSMS:

Latest Version: 1.21

Now it's possible to switch "Dithering" ON or OFF. There's also a much better algorithm now recognizing the edges.

Check this animated GIF to see the improvements:
