Is this safe to join?
do they send personal pictures and text messages back to thereselves?

Seems ok, the application does send the odd SMS message now and again, but it seems to be just status messages, no pictures or personal details. One thing to watch out for thought is that it will send a international text if it can't get through on the UK number, but it apparently only does it rarely like when the SIM is removed.
Usually it sends information back via data and the data it has been sending back has been small so I'm sure there's no picures in that, but it's a trust issue that their sending back what they claim they are.
