Downloaded a couple of mp4 format videos but they wont play on my N95, any ideas why?

"mp4" is not an exact video format specification.

The resolution can vary, the bitrate can vary, etc.

What the MPEG-4 file specs you have, you can see, e.g., by loading it in Quick Time on a PC (hit Ctrl+I when the video is open).

See the supported video format specs for "S60 3rd Edition FP1" based devices (like the N95) here (click on "Audio & Video Feature Tables" link):

MP4 files are supported but it's not quite that simple since it can many settings that have been used to create the file that aren't supported by N95, such as the video size (max 640x480), bitrate, "plain" Mp4 (H.263) vs H.264 etc...

First thing (and the easiest...) is to make sure that the resolution of the video is not more than 640x480.
Then if it's an h.264 file I've found out that the N95 can be quite "sensitive" to settings used when creating the file (...you just have to "trial & error"😉.

All files that I use (..or convert myself from ex. DVD) and that work very well have the following properties:
Codec: H.264
Video size: 320x240
Bitrate: 256kbit (..work well with higher but when using h.264 and resolution 320x240 it's no point, will not end up with better quality only larger file... If you convert to 640x480 bitrate should be set to 384 or 512kbit).

how to set the baseline for N95, 1 or 1.2 ?
