recently i've seen in discussions in here that some 'Bluetooth GPS receivers' are no longer functional in the new firmware 4.xxx.x.x. i personnaly use a BT-77 receiver which works perfectly with my n73(3.0638.0.0.1). but it seems to me that it has been confirmed BT-77 DOES NOT work with the new firmware. so i'm yet to upgrade unless i get good feedback on some 'compatible' receivers.
i know some people have got around it and started using new receivers. but most of them posted 'ebay item numbers' which in most cases are 'unavailable' in ebay as they have already been 'sold'.
moreover, most of those receivers on ebay have no actual brand names. so the only way to identify them in ebay is by the PICTURE/PHOTOGRAPH.
all the people who are using gps receivers SUCCESSFULLY with the "NEW firmware 4.x.x.x in N73 ", please post the picture that was being displayed in ebay before you bought them. or u can take a photograph and post it here.
also could you please post your experiences with your receivers, like- connection quality, acquisition time, battery life (live/standby), satellite visibility...etc.
i'm posting the pic of my BT-77 gps receiver as it was displayed on ebay.
thank you

Have used both following receivers with my N73ME (with latest firmware). Both worked perfectly. Originally had the 32 channel one, but sold my N73 to a friend who wanted the receiver as well. So to replace it for use with my N73ME I decided to try the 44 channel one. As I said both receivers work perfectly. Make an offer for the receiver you want, the seller might accept it.

Well, the GPS saga came to a thankful close today when my new GPS receiver arrived. It has become clear since the release of v4 firmware that Nokia failed to build in legacy support for older versions of Bluetooth so a new GPS device was sought by me and many other users.
After doing a fair bit of research, I eventually plumped for the Holox BT441. This is a 44 channel receiver with A-GPS and lightning fast start up times. It uses a Nokia BL-5C Li-Ion cell and gives up to 1000 hours of standby and 20hours continuous use. This is assisted by the auto shut down and power up feature. If the unit detects no physical movement, it will shut itself down into sleep mode. The moment it detects movement, it wakes up and re-acquires a signal in less than 1 sec !!
I have tested it with it stored in my glovebox and it could still see 15 satellites !
I'm very impressed and throughly recommend this item.
It is available from many sellers on eBay, but I bought mine from a seller called Holox Direct.
Here is a picture...

Hope that helps 😊
Hi there,
I have a problem on my N73 with the GPS BG001 (picture below) since update V4xxxxx.
Im using Tomtom v6.
I loose bluetooth connection and get a blank screen for 1 mn and then the screen comes back to the start page and I have to reload the connection + tomtom to make it work untill it eject me again (time varies between 1 mn of use and 30 mn)...
As everyone, I am waiting for an update from Nokia to solve this problem:frown: but free to get any help if anyone have a solution to this...
Thank you!
What version of Bluetooth does your GPS device support ? If it's less than Version 2, then I wouldn't hold out much hope of an update from Nokia as the V4 firmware implemented V2 Bluetooth with no legacy support for 1.2 or earlier.
Like the rest of us, you will need to get a new GPS device that conforms to V2 Bluetooth.
Thanks Lovesign!
I got surprised to see that my GPS protocol's bluetooth is a V1.2 and according to what you explain about Nokia's firmware V4 not supporting V1.2 and above, this could be the problem...
But if the new firmware accept only V2 protocols, why they don't make it ALSO accept the above versions as I think many custumers use different bluetooth devices like handset etc. using V1.2 and above versions??
I may misunderstand that but usely when a big company such as Nokia do udates, theses updates should includes the acceptances of the previous versions??
So do I really have to change my just-bought bluetooth GPS receiver or do you think it's a mistake from Nokia (we seems to be so many in the same case)?
Or, as my company buy Nokia's N73 for they employers, do you know a firmware accepting V1.2 because my company will be ok to buy me a new one if the GPS is not working on my personnal one witch I updated (hope you will understand my bad english) 😊
Thank you anyway for your time, hope you have some answers for me...
Ps : here is the the GPS BG-001 I just bought

as far as i know N73 still comes with s60v3. and it works seamlessly with tomtom6 and all gps receivers i've heard of. u can see in my first post that i personally use it.
just to be sure, u can contact nokia and ask them what version they are supplying now-a-days with the N73.
