Nokia software/firmware updater

So, I got this downloaded and installed on the laptop, and set about attempting to update to the latest firmware.

I connected the phone to the computer via the usb, nokia PC suite detected the phone.

Got as far as step 2 on the updater, then it just tells me it is trying to find my phone, and then just stays there and stays there and stays there - nothing further.

Why could this be? should I perhaps try to uninstall the software and then start all over again?

physical connection.. and not all USB ports are created equal .. try a different one.
DONT use a USB HUB

Ensure NO firewall or Antivirus software is running.

If you're using vista make sure you have the VERY latest PC Suite / drivers installed. If it still fails to connect .. use XPSP2 compatibility mode run as administrator and switch off visual themes.

disconnect and reconnect (I occasionally have to do this).
