when i record a video on my n95 there is a hissing noise when i play it back is there anyone who can help me with this.
hissing on video playback
I understand this is caused by the internal electronics on the N95, and that the noise is actually recorded onto the audio track of the video.
Presumably, you would need to export the video to a PC/Mac, extract the audio and process it in an audio editor with noise reduction, then insert the 'cleaned' audio back into the video. Has anyone here actually done something like this, or is there an easier solution?
or you can try this: Take the back cover off, take the battery out and look for any snakes that might have snuck in without you noticing

This is normal "amplifier hiss" associated with the amplifiers within the n95 on playback. Unfortunately the amp on the n95 is very "noisey" because it uses cheap components. If you listen carefully it can be noted most of the time when any audio is played. My n95 has had to be returned twice due to this cheap audio thing as it keeps going distorted at high volume levels, which is totally unacceptable on such an expensive device.
I have to say that the n95 is the most disappointing nokia I have ever bought, what with firmware that introduces more annoying bugs the newer it gets, and terrible audio, and so little ram that you can't use anything more than one useful app at a time. You can't browse ebay for example without the standard browser using all the ram up and just shutting. It's got all the features you could want but you can't use most of them fully. It's like nokia dangling a huge carrot, then as you take a bite it turns out to be a fake plastic one.
Is your vid. audio level quiet apart from the hiss brookie? I think it could be the AGC turning the record audio gain full up in an attempt to capture those low level sounds. Wish it had a manual override!
Otherwise I think the general audio quality is ok - I wonder if it is possible to use an external mic. The fact that you can use the mic. in the wired remote implies an audio input of some sort - who knows!
You could always record a silent vid and a seperate audio track and dub it on afterwards? My guess is that if the video has a noisy enough ambiance, you wont hear the hiss - could be wrong tho - must experiment with some vid.
Cheers,

I just recorded some video using the wired remote mic. I stayed quiet during the level setting test, and the result was the hissiest, loudest audio I have heard from a N95! I pulled out the wired remote plug halfway through the recording, the hiss went away and the audio level dropped back - normal service resumed!
Come on Nokia, let's have a superb external mic. with AGC override on insert. You KNOW you can do it!
(Oh - and a clip on optical zoom lens to go with it)

Basically noise cannot be removed fully but it can be reduced, you can use an audio editor to reduce it, I used FlexiMusic Audio Editor to reduce the noise, its looking better.
