First, make sure your Wireless router is able to accept new connections (IE DHCP is able to assign IP addresses to atleast 1 more host).

Ensure DHCP is active on your network or Change your phone's IP to reflect that of your network.

You can designate your own IP after you've defined your access point (turn on WLAN scanning and try to use your access point).

After you have done this, goto 'tools>settings>connection>access points' then highlight your access point and select 'options>edit>options>advanced settings> IPv4 settings' and enter an IP address under the same subnet as your network. IE 192.168.*.* (in most cases) subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 (again, depending on your network) and default gateway being the IP address of your wireless router and keep DNS address as automatic.

I would try putting in a static IP address first just to override DHCP on your network which may be giving the wrong gateway or DNS address resulting in a "no gateway reply" error. If you are still having issues let me know.
