Hi Brian I had the same problem with the N95 on Orange. I ended up calling my self using a landline number and leaving a quick message on the answering machine then listening to it fully and waiting till the option came around to erase the message. Only after I did this did the symbol disappear! Hope that helps. Cheers Z

Had exactly the same problem on T-Mobile with my old Vario II. It's possible it's more of a network problem rather than the phone itself. I think the network broadcasts whether you have a message or not.

In my experience with both Orange and, more recently, T-Mobile, when you delete the last voicemail message don't immediately end the call. Wait a few moments for the next menu option to be read out and only then end the call.

Sometimes if you end the call straight after deleting the voicemail the "signal trigger" to cancel the message on your handset isn't sent and you have to do, as above, by leaving a new message and deleting that too.
