Hi,
Does anyone know if you can install a compass program on the N95?
Or is there a compass in there already and if so where and how does it work?

I've not tried this yet but I'm going to.
Has good reviews and as well as being a compass includes stuff like sunset and sunrise times.

Under tools you will find a program called gps data, which has a compass and uses internal/external gps antenna
For GPS type compasses you have to move to get even a close reading as they depend on the changes to satellite position - I only picked this up recently as I'm still trying to work out why some of these GPS programs do strange things. See the thread on Geocaching for some other links
The one I posted doesn't use GPS for its compass so you dont have to be moving.

Q: How does it work?
A: Compass computes the sun and moon position using your latitude and longitude, and the time.
That's surely a candidate for "pointless software of the year". If you can see the sun and know the time, you've got a good idea of which way's which anyway.
Presumably it's a modern variant of the old watch trick - point the hour hand at the Sun and south is indicated by the bi-section of the hour hand and 12.
I think. Different if you are in Australia or on Moon. Not so good at night. Or cloudy day. Etc..
