OK, it seems my N95 slider mechanism is also a bit loose as demonstrated on the youtube video http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=rltZWvv_QEo I would like to know if the considered opinion is that it is normal and common design flaw or something just effecting a few handsets, if so is it worthwile exchanging it for a new handset? I am with O2 in the UK.

The 'loose slider syndrome' is annoying, but, it is as a result of wide tolerances and possibly low set quality control.
However, having taken a number of N95s apart, I can say that this does not affect the operation of the phone in any way except in regard for the esthetic appreciation of the user.
There are a few methods of rectifying the annoyance and a google or search on this forum and others will return lots of info about this. These all require opening the phone and though not difficult it's not for everyone.
I have performed the sticky tape solution and after some time have had to do it again!
The problem with returning to Nokia or your network provider is that you may get one back that proves to be worse (it seems that the slider is not something that they automatically check if a phone goes back with this problem). Plus if the slider is 'fixed' then you could end up with other issues that you didn't have before.
If the phone is otherwise OK then consider trying to live with the problem or report your concerns to your provider and have it logged ASAP so that if it gets worse you have reason for future return.
Hi. Do you have this problem too?
Annyoing when you turn it upside down (top facing the ground or bottom facing the ground)
hi,
this is definitely a well known build quality issue with the N95.
Ive done the do-it-yourself option, and don't regret it as I have not had any issues with the slider ever since. Even did the fix to a friends N95.
Check my post #19 in here for more details:

If you are not confident in doing this, then don't, and try getting your provider to get you a new one.
ut.
