N95 or N95 8GB?

6 replies · 11,516 views · Started 12 September 2007

im on o2 and undecided if i should get the n95 or wait for the 8GB version.

Anyones thoughts please?

I understand the 8gb wont have a slider or memory card slot?

And the normal n95 is due to be compatible with a VERY large memory card soon, is this right and will it work okay?

It has a slider, but not a lens cover.

There are a few reasons for the new version.

First is that its more stable, mainly due to more RAM for running programs (not just the 8GB onboard).

Second, is that is has an increased battery, 1200 rather than 950. However it does have a slightly larger screen, so there are no proper reports of battery life yet.

As for the memory on the standard N95, the 4GB cards are micro SDHC (HC being high capacity) and they work. Given that the 8GB ones are going to be the same, SDHC, then yes they should work.

The 8GB does have a slider but no lens cover. The 8GB memory takes the place of the memory slot. Only 4 GB memory cards are available at the moment, 8 GB are supposed to be due out soon, 16GB are further in the future. I would expect the N95 to be able to go up to 32GB.

Do you need the extra memory?

The 8GB does have a bigger battery.

If you get the 8GB when it's out on a 12 month contract by the time 16GB cards are out you'll be nearly at the end of the contract and can get the successor (N97?).

O2 are currently doing great deals (Free Handset?) on the existing N95, and you can fit any size of memory card you want to it (currently max 4Gb @ £20 but soon 8Gb and beyond will be available).

The 8Gb N95 is not available in Europe at present and when it does, expect to pay a premium for the handset and you can never expand beyond the 8Gb memory.

Personally, I think the current N95 with the latest V12 FW and a 4Gb Micro SD is the best value for money mobile package available in Europe.

Mobymemory are banging out 6GB cards compatible with the Nokia N95 for just under 40 at the moment. No sign of 8GB cards on their website, yet.
