Hi! I am new to this complex mobile phones (my previous ones were nokia 1600 and nokia 2600 😊 ). So at last i bought a N73 Music Edition (as the delaer said).
With the package i got a 256 MB card (no Nokia mark), data cable, charger, HD S3 headset and the book. (no cd as well).
After reading this forum and other sites i decided to do a firmware upgrade and the code *#0000# returned following.

Since i didn't have the cd rom i downloaded the latest pc suite from nokia singapore site and installed it. When the phone is connected it asks for a MT6227 (as i can remember) driver and then i installed the cable driver as well. (However the site states that the latest pc suite has the driver inbuilt).
Ultimately what happened was the phone is taken as a mass storage device but the nokia pc suite does not identify the phone. And when the phone is connected in the phone's display there is no option called "PC Suite". There are only 3 (web cam, com port and one other option).
Additionally there is no option to change the theme in this phone currently and also the soft / hard reset codes also does not work in that.
So my questions are;
1. Am i a victim of a scam?
2. If not how can i get all the software i want without the cd rom comes with phone?
3. How come a phone made in 06-27-2007 carry such older firmware.
4. Will a firmware update allow me to change themes?
all gurus please help me. thanks in advance.
Was the phone sold as new?
It doesn't sound like it.
I just reinstalled PC Suite tonight and had no requests for drivers.
Moreover, I was asked to install MMS Sync to the phone as part of the installation.
There is an option called Data Cable in the menus (don't know where it was originally, I've shuffled my menus about) but in that you can specify whether the phone is used as Mass Media, PC Suite, Media Player, Pict Bridge or Ask On Connection.
If it's in Mass Media mode PC Suite won't recognise your phone.
If you're getting Web Cam and COM Port as options I don't know what you've got.
You sure its an N73?

Yes you got scammed. This is what also happened to me in HK .Some F***ing idiots sold me one of these Nokia N73 inside a real nokia retail box. For some reason, this phone is definately well copied by the chinese and is 100% identical to the real one i got to admit. It even takes in the real nokia batteries!!!.
The firmware code u mentioned are exactly the same as the one i got. I cant believe i am not the only who got scammed like this.
And also btw, the message "MT6227" requesting for a driver in the computer is actually the same drivers used for a cheap MP4 china phone. Nokia PC suite obviously will not work, and the webcam option is availible which already distinguishes the fact its a fake nokia. (Most chinese MP4 phones have webcam options too).
I bought by crappy N73 for HKD $1550 (around 100 sterling) which was definately a total rip off.
Please post a pictures and a menu screen shot... if it's possible to even get one
Never heard of a fake device in which you need to ask a forum whether it's real or not :icon4:

Luckily, today i went back to the original hack-shack who sold me the fake N73 and i got an exchange for a Sony Ericsson W880i 😊 . But it took me quite an effort to argue and make them exchange.
During my stay in that shop, i also tried out the FAKE nokia N72. Seriously, at first i thought its just a real N72, but when i turned it on, the interface is totally different. The housing however is identical to the real N72. I then opened the battery cover and it still has a nokia label.
Looks like the Chinese people are one step ahead when it comes to copying phones.
It coulda just been the Chinese firmware... the font generally is different and weirder...

Well the fake N73's firmware looks identical to the real N73, the home screen and the application menu. But however, the phone supports different langauges, including french, english, spanish, simplified chinese, italian, german, russian and some middle east language.
During my expirience with the fake N73, i was quite confused whether the phone is real or not. But i just made myself somehow belief the phone is a genuine Nokia cuz it can use genuine nokia headsets and USB cables. The Charger port can also use real nokia chargers too.
The front 3G camera works suprisingly, however the phone itself does not have 3G support making the front camera useless and can only be used as a mirror 😛.
The main camera is rubbish and the maximum photo size is 2 megapixel, not 3.2. It deos not have autofocus, but yet it has a powerful flash.
oh btw, i have no idea how to upload images =__=. Do i need to make some photo hosting website and get the http? i think it would be best if someone can help me upload the pictures if i send u an email with attached images

It does't identifies any application..
Only good for mp3 , 3gp , mp4 etc...
could u download any app.
I even tried MT6227 but even that does'nt work..
Nokia pc suite using bluetooth shows a locked sign..What does that means...
i am struck with this phone as d shop from where i purchased is 2000 km away

Mine's subjuect to a paypal dispute, got a written report from nokia service centre confirming its a fake and non of the internal parts are of nokia design of manufactor.

Recently I bought a fake nokia, I have to admit but the chinese replica is really amazing before you start to inspects it, sorry for my bad english, I'm from Costa Rica, but I leave these photos here them and judge by you same, do not spend its money in this piece of thrash, look the silver/plum is the real deal!!!! and the black "music edition" (this is the worst part this sounds terrible!!!!!) don't waste your money, I hope that this can help somebody not to be victim and to commit the same error than me:frown:
PD: look on the operator always appear the number 71201 and the most of fakes are only 900/1800mhz band, and other terrible things, don't have autofocus, no have 3.2mp camera, and the zoom keys doesn't work, if you have question don's hestiate and contact me before you waste your time and money, the 3 first picts are from original the last 2 are from the fake, ahhh almost forgot the speakers grill on the original are of metal (I think aluminium), the fake are from plastic and painted silver
