Old N80 Owner, Future N95

Here's a little background. Before I owned any N Series phone, I was looking for a good camera phone. At first I wanted N73, but then I found out about N80 and though the camera would be better and it also had W-Fi. So I bought that.

I was unsatisfied. So I thought about trading in my N80 for an N73. Then.... I realized, just go for N95.

Does N73 beat the N95 in ANY way? I doubt it... but I'd like to get confirmed.

Would you guys reccomend something better? I'm really looking for a pretty good camera. Wi-Fi is probably a must now.. Plus. N95 has GPS....

I'm a gadget freak. I like to have "cool" features without really needing them.

Also. Is there a case for this? Like one I can attach to my belt? I tend to put my phones in my pocket... and I really need to get away from that.

Yes, battery life😉
Wait for N95 8Gb.

N95 8Gb battery has about 25% more capacity. Maybe you will get 25% more time between charges (1.25 days instead of just a day - whoopeee!)- but - it has a slightly bigger screen - so maybe not.

If you use the GPS in a car use a car charger - the screen is always lit in navigation mode and that would flatten my old 6630 (with Bluetooth GPS) battery in a couple of hours. The N95 battery is running the GPS and the screen so it is bound to get flat quickly.

Best advice I have had is to charge the N95 battery at any opportunity and not let it run down more than half way if possible. It charges more quickly and retains its capacity better that way. The N95 has loads of toys so you will play with it more, and that will quickly flatten any size of battery. Plug it in when you can.

Cheers,

s.

You will get about 3.5 hours GPS Navigation (with N95 & Route 66 & BTooth Headset) from a fully charged battery. You could extend this indefinitly with an N95 car charger adapter.

My comments to the original poster of this thread:

Get the N95 free on a UK Network deal, buy a 2 or 4Gb memory card.
Don't wait for the N95-8Gb.
(a) the handset will cost more to buy as it will not be so heavily subsidised
(b) the 25% extra battery life is ins't going to make significant change to battery life
(c) the lack of memory card slot and no lens cover are 2 major reasons not to even want the N95-8Gb.

I pretty much agree. 25% isnt a big deal. You can charge ANYWHERe these days.. Carry a 2nd battery too. I usually have a bag with me.. so...

But yes. Paying more for 8GB isn't really a thing for me. Plus, the cover is a good thing.

And what's this I hear.. "free N95"? "UK network deal"?

I live in Canada. Does thhe N95 come with a free/decent map for Canada? To be honest.. I already own a GPS device, so I already have maps. Would I be able to use those for the N95? I assume so. Please confirm 😊

What about the carrying pouche? Is there a decent looking case for the N95? I haev so much questions....

Is there a portable charger for Nokia N95? Like.. There will be batteries in the device, but I can hook it up to my N95? I know such a thing existed before I even saw it on TV. But it wasnt for a Nokia, so...

In the UK handsets are heavily subsidised (often FREE) on a contract. O2 UK are currently offering the N95 free on £35/month contracts. (approx $50USD? per month). I hear it's very different in the USA & Canada where ya have to buy the handset you want in addition to your airtime contract?

As for Maps, Nokia's bundled MAPS application downloads all maps for free. I could not say how good the Canada ones are.
However, GPS navigation is chargeable with Nokia MAPS app, so many of us use Route66 (with N95 Internal GPS) or TomTom6 (with External Bluetooth GPS receiver).

Yea. We can get free ones here in Canada, but they're not the best. The good ones are just discounted.

If I was to buy an N95 with a 3 year contract, the N95 will be $569.. Soo... $200 off.

Yes, Proporta make one, and very good it is too (I have one). Charge the Proporta by mains/car/USB and it will charge the N95 (you get about 3 recharges) or a load of other devices if you get the appropriate attachments. It can be found here -> CLICKY

£35/month is not $50 but $70 !!! Quite a difference in my eyes. I moved to the UK not that long ago (2 years) and I honestly find the phone contract prices here quite outrageous compared to some other countries.... The mobile operators here really know how to play the "free phone" game - we'll give you the phone free and then charge you monthly quite exobitant amount.

Having N95 I bought upfront I discovered that using built in VOIP my pre-paid monthly phone bill is £10 top.

With my N80, I thought using VOIP would be better... Nope. There's not much free wireless connections out here.

My bill use to go up $100 CAD. Once I get my new contract/N95.. This is the plan I might get.

Megatime Incoming Plan
$35/month
200 daytime minutes
Unlimited Evening/Weekend minutes (9pm-7am)
Unlimited Incoming Call
Unlimited Network Calling (Free local calls between Rogers, Fido and Rogers Home Phone customers)

75% of cell users here are Rogers. Rogers and Fido are kinda the same, soo... And Incomming is free. Which is hot. People usually call me anyways.

And wow. 3 recharges? That's a lot... I guess if that's so.. I'm not gonna need an extra battery for the N95.

How much would your 3 year contract cost per month and what minutes/text/internet allowance would you get?

$569 $CAN Doesn't seem a good deal compared to O2 UK with FREE N95, for 35pm 18 month contract, with 600 MINS XNET and 600 SMS.

Per month should be less than $40 if I don't go over limited. I don't think it's possible to go over the limit considering ALL incomming call is free. Making calls to other network(Fido, Rogers, Rogers Landline) is free. Rogers is what's used mostly in Vancouver from what I know, soo... Unlimited calls right there. Incomming txts are free too. $10 extra I get 125 SMS with other stuff. $20 more I get 2,500 SMS with other stuff.

Internet.. It isn't popular to use internet here... considering it'll be expenive. That's why I wanna get N95.. For Wi-Fi. Then again.. We dont have free hot spots around here either. And with that $20 more. i can do 1,000 pic/video msgs. But yea.. I guess the UK one is better.

I got another question. What's louder.. music/speaker wise.. N80 or N95?

Also.. I was VERY disappointed by how slow N80 was... How does N95 compare? it has more stuff.. It's possible it's slower. It's also an upgrade.. so it shouldn't be slower.

I am interested in the emphasis you put on the Free INCOMING stuff, as if that's unusual or new in Canada and USA? Did it used to be different?

I believe it's always been free to receive calls, texts & MMS in within UK mainland. Personally I would not own a mobile if I was charged for incoming calls or messages.

The N95, its got the loudest speakers ive ever heard on the phone and its got 2 speakers rather than 1 (not sure how many the N80 has)

The N95 is very responsive and nippy, quite a bit quicker than my old N70, only slow thing ive noticed is the camera takes a few seconds to come on but they always have on all my nokias anyway

I've been told the N70 is quicker than the N80.

And incomming was never free in Canada. Lame, eh? But anyways. I've mistaken. Apparntly they advertised wrong 4 months ago, there is NO Unlimited with Incomming AND Unlimited Network.

It's either. But there's a plan where you can do Unlimited Incomming WITH a My5 Plan. My5 is.. You choose like 5 numbers.. and you're unlimited with it. For friends you call often I guess.

But yea. I do agree. It's lame having to pay for calls you RECIEVE.
