I flashed my N95 to Euro 1..... gone through a fer updates (up to v.12) and i recently checked the supplied control.... nothing, no mic operation, no buttons working.

Anyone had this? any fixes?

Neil

if you open up the little device which is a pain in the arse you will find a battery which will be flat so replace it and all will be fine again

A battery in the AD-43 ?!?!?

Are you sure ?

yes i am sure, if you open it up you will see for yourself, the battery is the size of a 10 pence coin model number CR2032 also its held together by a little screw under the clip on the back which you cant get to so just force it apart carefully.

I initially couldnt believe this myself, but it's true: Nokia has placed a rather fat battery inside the AD-43 control unit as you can see from the attached picture.

Since my control unit was already dead, I had to remove the clip on the back, unscrew it et voilà, the battery.

Considering that a lot of N95s had slider problems and an overall bad build quality (already had to drop in my N95 to a Service Centre 6 weeks after purchase), it's astonishing that even a rather simple device such as a headset dies just after 4-5 months in use. And I really don't use it that much!

Battery voltage reads 2.04V instead of 3.x...

*sigh*

Mines not working since firmware update either... I guess just a coincidence then? Time to change the battery?

What's the best way to get the clip off?

Mines always been like this, just thought it was dodgy and forgot about it.

How to I get the clip off without snapping it?

I threw mine in the bin this morning thinking it was goosed... just hope it didn't land in beans or anything! 😮

Actually I notice poor radio reception using it (compared to headphones directly into the socket) could that be due to the battery thing too? Seems unlikely.

You can buy a new one on line for a tenner - may do that - bet the battery will be about £5 anyway!

3Shirts, have you just upgraded to the new firmware too? Just trying to rule out this as the problem.

BTW: Don't think the battery should effect the radio reception.

The other alternative to access the screw is to drill a hole right through the plastic clip so you won't need to force this stubborn pin out...

ok.... i lost my temper... snapped the clip off.

No biggie.

So now I take the screw out and still with the hold switch and the headphone socket, I can see more plastic snapping.

I'll just buy a new one! but what a crap design to use batteries!

Sony use a beep code system with their remotes... no battery.

Mine's packed up too. I assumed it was a firmware update which did it (that or the fact that I accidently hit it with a hammer - don't do DIY when wearing headphones!).

A battery is an usual way to do it, most just short circuit the earth & audio wires inside in certain ways. Oh well, off to find a battery. CR2032s are at least common and cheap.

Do you mean that even after the screw comes out it still doesn't open easily?

Well looks like the previous picture is of an old version module, here is (was) mine (completely destroyed it to open). No battery on it, mine stop working after visiting the washer machine.

Notice the screw is just below the hinge, and not on the first hole I made.
