GPS Perfect!

From all the problems with GPS ive been having recently - its just taken a brilliant change for the better.

Now on v12 and with A-GPS i thought i would give it a lil try to see what was going on with it now that id had a bit more advice from you guys.

I sit in an office, which has a metal roof, i am reasonably close to a window.

Within 20 seconds of me clicking on the maps program, it had found me with pinpoint accuracy!!

Now i can honestly say i am truly impressed - that is some serious technology!!

Well done Nokia - keep up the good work! :icon14: :icon14:

I think the GPS Satellites have majorly improved or because the sky conditions are much better its picking up so quickly. I havnt used my GPS in over 1-2months. Tried it today and within 1min was up, 2nd time took 20seconds.

it must be something mate because a week or two back i tried it and nope - took bloody ages - but this has now impressed me immensely!

Don't forget a lot depends on where you were when you last used it. ie if you use it at location A on day 1 then move to location B (30 miles away) on day 7, it will take substantially longer to get a lock than if you try again on day 2 at location A.

Yes but the pick up is noticeablly different now. I used to be in the same location and then move and it would take 5-10mins. Now with the new location 1min and same location 20seconds.

Now all you need to do is use something better than maps.

Navicore and R66 are both better imo

Viewranger is amazing if your an outdoor person and you are in the UK

Why cant the people who make viewranger also make satnav software (for roads)?

Im sure it would be good, and they would listen to what you want.

Yeah i understand about it picking me up quicker when im nearer a place i have tried it before - but this is the first time i used it at work and it got my so quick i couldnt help but being impressed - its a good 30 miles away from home!! :icon14:

Yeah i think i might have to try some other GPS software, are they trials i can use to see what i like, or perhaps freeware, or are these fully paid programs?

Can someone supply links for me please? 😉

Sadly there are no trials (why?? this would be amazingly handy), but the verdict from people on this forum seem to be navicore, and navigon.

Navigon is around 69.99 for the download version, and includes all of europe. It doesnt allow you to add POI, so no speed cameras.

Navicore is a bit more for just one country, although you can get it cheaper by buying a cheap 2006 version and upgrading. For me though, it missed some instructions and also gave them too late. But some others seems to get on with it fine.

However, many people are now waiting for the new symbian release of tomtom supposedly in November timish. Its widely expected to support the internal GPS, although no-one has confirmed it will.

Yeah, the A-GPS really makes a difference. It sends off what satellite info it has to a big computer somewhere else which can crunch the numbers much quicker than the N95 - works out where you are and sends this back to the phone! 😊

Ive also noticed a quicker connect. Used to take minutes (sometimes never) but now 30 seconds and im there. 😊
