Just got first bill for N95, strange numbers?

12 replies · 3,282 views · Started 21 September 2007

Just got my first bill for my new N95 and it includes four calls that were charged as not part of my call bundle.

I don't know these numbers, so was hoping someone on here could shed some light on them.

0639186949603. This was called three times, each time for only 1 second with a charge of 10p.

0491728700937. This was called only once, and again only 1 second with a charge of 10p.

I have googled but found nothing. I even checked other mobile phone providers prefixes and found nothing. (I am on o2)

Both listed numbers appear to be non UK based.

Have you downloaded or installed VOIP apps, or other apps which asked for permission to use network services, etc? (This type of app requires you to agree during installation or each time they are launched).

If none of the above applies, you might want to install a Virus Scanner and check your memory for Trojans.

It's rather a tangent, but I wouldn't say that antivirus software is doing anything except sucking down CPU cycles and RAM.. you can't get 'viruses' on Symbian unless you deliberately install them. Just don't install unsolicited programs.

Just checked and it's also a firewall also.

I will be ringing o2 for an explanation of what these strange numbers are.

0491728700937.
This number looks for me like a German Vodafone number, only that the 00 is missing in the beginning.
Looks like u tried to dial an international number, but missed one leading zero.

If true, then the first number would be normally a number in Phillipines.

Greetings
Tom

I got some strange numbers on my bill (Virgin) after speaking with Virgin it was caused by picture messages that failed to send.

OK, mystery over (sort of).

I have a German friend who lives in the Phillippines.

I sent him 2 x texts, so don't know why 3 calls appear on my bill for 1 second each. I made no voice calls to him.

Then I found out that he was back in Germany temporarily, using a relative's mobile (handy). I sent him 1 x text message.

Strange though that all 4 calls even though I only actually sent 3 text messages came up as voice calls on my bill????

My moneys on you being on T-mobile

The +063 number is something custom they use for their voicemail. I think its +063 - then your phone number (might wanna edit your post). Don't think its anything to worry about really. The +49 is germany too.

Just to echo Mithent, anti-virus and firewall software is a waste of time on symbian. It's all just scaremongering. The only way to get software on your phone (unlike a PC) is to put it there yourself or agree to a bluetooth connection etc. Installing something requires 4 or 5 'yes I agree' clicks so if you do manage to install a virus you have to be pretty stupid.
Additionally (and again, unlike a PC), the system software is all on ROM and therefore cannot be altered or damaged by a virus so the very worst you could get is losing contacts and photos etc.

On top of that, no mobile phone virus has ever 'broken out' into the wild. Many are created as proof-of-concepts and sent to the anti virus labs, but they are commercial too so they create software for these virus and market it.

Save your money and just use the Nokia backup facility every so often. Then, in the highly unlikely event that you do get a virus, you can just factory reset and restore the backup.

AV software wastes space and resources and serves no real purpose.
