E61 Opera and internal browser - joystick/cursor behavior question

Hi everybody, my 2nd question about the E61, there's only a couple of issues I have with it, and I think if I could get them sorted it will be perfect for my needs, at least for a good while!

The internal browser has a pointer controlled by the joystick, which for me makes it slow to navigate to clickable links. Otherwise, I like it ok.

Opera Mini has a cursor that jumps very quickly from link to link, and page up and page down using the joystick are great. It's a good solution for me EXCEPT, it doesn't completely replace the internal browser.

So my questions are

1) Is there a way to set the E61 so that Opera Mini "takes over" as the main browser, so that when clicking on say, a link in an email, or opening a download, it opens Opera Mini instead of the internal browser?

2) Speaking of clicking on a link in an email, recently I did that... and I **think** it opened up the internal browser. However, the cursor behaved the way I'd like it to! Where it would jump from link to link, instead of having a pointer to move around the screen. Except no "page up and page down" like in Opera Mini. How/why did that happen, and can I possibly set it to do that all the time?

I have Tmobile and I might have used a different connection than usual (maybe I got the wap version of a site, instead of the regular version?)

Any thoughts/tips/advice greatly appreciated. I'm coming to the E61 from a Sidekick, which had very limited functions but what it did, was pretty seamless.

I'm guessing as seeing you are coming from a sidekick your are in the US, and therefore as in your previous post mention you only have a Blackberry Mail Data plan as it drastically reduces your Data usage by using Opera Mini minimising your costs.

Your E61 has two browsers one called Web which IMHO knocks spots off Opera in all of it's variants as is a full browser and i have found no problems like you describe with navigation in fact far from it. I find it much faster to both load sites and navigation is also fast and accurate it is also recognised as being if not the best one of the best browsers found on any Mobile device.

You also have a second browser in the E61 called Services and this is a WAP only browser, i would advise making sure when you are browsing normal sites to make sure you are using the Browser called Web and not Services to see if you notice a difference as you may be surprised at just how good it really is.

As to reassigning which browser opens when you click a link i don't think this can be reconfigured to use Opera Mini as will always use the internal browsers available. I have never seen an option anywhere to be able to change this, but maybe some one may know different.

Hi, checking back in. After reading your post I decided to try and get to know the main browser better. Since then I've spent some time with it and agree the built-in "Web" browser is indeed better than Opera once i got used to the joystick a little more, and once I figured out zooming.

Related question... when I click on a link in an email, it opens up "Services" and not "Web". Is there a way to set it so that it uses the "Web" browser instead?

Thanks!

I don't think it can be done, otherwise we would all be doing it already instead of asking. It is such an obvious "feature" that it makes the mind boggle why Nokia didn't see fit either (i) use "Web" as default browser instead of the useless "Services", or (ii) have it configurable.
