Is Nokia going to release any new firmware for the N95 mainly to fix the keypress bug or have they once again given up with this device in favour of making the N95 8gb more stable.
It reminds me of the N93 scenario again, they released it, fixed a few things then just gave up on it leaving a lot of owners unsatisfied.
I'm running 12.0.014 - no keypress bug.
Any changelog?
There will be more firmwares available for the N95, but I don't think anyone knows when the next one will be coming out.
the keypress bug does still exist in 12.0.13 and I suspect in 12.0.14 as that is just a language / region variant.

Hi Stu - as a user of both 12.0.13 and 12.0.14 I can confirm that the keypress bug is not present in the latter variant.

Nokia N95 (12.01)
I must be unlucky; I'm running 12.0.14 and I have the keypress bug. It's rampant, and extremely irritating. 😞
How bizarre... I don't what I've done different.
What product code are you running?
my 12.0.014 works a treat also
it feels like its more just a language variant, battery is faster, keypress probs gone and things just move faster

I set mine to the APAC code ( 053085) when I flashed mine. Changed it back afterwards though.
Mine's set to APAC 0534833
No keypress bug present.
(same as 'Tanov'😉
FYI and all that -
Plus - I've had it confirmed from a colleague of mine at Nokia that the keypress should not be present in the .14 variant.
(that was on of the main reasons of the quick release - the keypress bug hacked off a LOT of people)
Hi
can someone mention exactly what this keypress bug is/does?
Crispy
whatleydude:
Thanks for letting me know which code you used. I want to try and flash my phone again (performing a hard reset first this time), but the latest version of NSU doesn't all you to flash your phone if you have the current firmware installed (the old version used to allow forced flashing). I guess I'll just have to wait for the next firmware release.
CrispyDuck:
The keypress bug was more about what it didn't do, rather than what it did. The phone wouldn't recognise maybe 2 or 3 presses out of every 10. Quite annoying if you text a lot! You would also have to press the multimedia key twice to get the music player to open.
oops already answered. thanks

You sir, are a star. I changed my product code to the one you use and ran the updated again (after doing a hard reset). The software let me flash my phone again, even though I already had the latest version (I guess that option comes down to your product code, not the version of NSU you use). After reinstalling everything again, I found the keypress bug to be nonexistant!
Now I can use my Nokia again!

That's very interesting - I'll do some testing on that in the next few days!
When Nokia recognizes this bug, and release a quickly update for this in the APAC-region (12.0.014), why not release this firmware also for the EMEA-regions?
I'm running on 12.0.014 (APAC) and have the same keypress bug 😞
if i get an n95 on o2 can i still update the sofeware from the nokia site or do i have to use o2 branded software??

You'd need to change your product code first, using NSS. Once you've done that, you can update your software. You might want to change your product code back to the original afterwards though, for warranty purposes. 😊
for someone who has never done that before or knows what NSS is how easy is it to do?
bradfordlad wrote:for someone who has never done that before or knows what NSS is how easy is it to do?
Don't worry, it's quite painless. 😊
Download NNS here: Click here
- Connect your phone to your PC (in PC Suite Mode), but make sure PC Suite (if installed) is closed. Run NSS, and click the button in the top right corner [the magnifying glass]
- Click the button marked [Phone Info] - it has an image of a Nokia 6600
- Click the button marked [Read]; your product code will appear.
- Click the check box marked [Enabled] and then put your new product code into the box, overwriting the original code.
- Click the box marked [Write]
- Click the box marked [Read] again, just to make sure your new code has been written.
If all goes well, exit the program then run Nokia Software Update. You should now be able to update your phone.
When you're done, you can do the NSS process again, this time putting your original code back in.
Good luck!
thanks for that, very helpful.
If I do that does that remove the O2 branding? not sure if it has any but I know my N73 has O2 welcome screen at start up instead of nokia welcome screen.
Id prefer to keep it as nokia intended and be able to change it back if I needed to for warranty...
Also will it work perfectly afterwards or would you suggest chan ging the product code back to O2?
Is the o2 UK product code compatible with all firmware versions regardless of whether there is an O2 upgraded firmware version on nokias website?

Yes it does. Mine was Orange-branded originally, and *everything* from Orange disappeared after flashing.

It will work perfectly. People suggest changing the product code back in case the phone has to go in for repair. if the repair department find the code has been changed they might not honour the warranty. having said that, the chance of that happening is minimal, so it's up to the user - a product code change is not compulsory.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking here, but the O2 product code is only compatible with an update for that particular firmware. Branded firmwares usually come out later than the Nokia ones, so by changing the product code to a generic one, you can get updates for your phone earlier.
I would go with your gut and keep it as Nokia intended. I have done pretty much the same thing and prefer the phone without any branding - which is what you will get.
Mine works perfectly.

Anyone else noticed the horrible font used in this version? The font it bold everywhere in the menus, then is tiny when you most need it - texting.
I am running 12.0.013 and don't have the keypress bug? But I am in Australia, which I presume runs the APAC code also.
bradfordlad wrote:for someone who has never done that before or knows what NSS is how easy is it to do?
Just be warned that changing your product code technically invalidates your phone's warranty. There's no chance of Nokia or your Network ever finding out, unless you ever have to send it in for repair, then you could end up with an invoice for the work or even a refusal to repair your N95 at all.
I can't see a Nokia repair centre refusing to carry out repair work on a phone - it's what they do, after all! They'd simply bill the phone's owner.
I've noticed the keypress bug is still ever so slightly present in v12.0.14. maybe every 1 in 30 keys doesn't register.
The firmware does seem to have changed some texting problems I was having:
Sometimes I would send a text, and it would go straight into drafts, and not send it. Very annoying as I would never know until later on in the day.
Also, it started saying 'General: Text Message Already In Use' when I tried to send sometimes, and not allow it to be send.
v.14 fixed both of these issues.
And the new font is growing on me 😊

When I go to update my firmware it says that I already have the newest firmware but it's the old one not 1.2....
Why is this?
djreyes wrote:When I go to update my firmware it says that I already have the newest firmware but it's the old one not 1.2....Why is this?
Probably because your Network Operator has not released v12 for your Product Code.
