realistic speed of 3G in UK?

4 replies · 1,858 views · Started 27 September 2007

what should you expect to get I remember CSD dial up being 9.6kbps and GPRS is around 43kbps?

what is 3G and what is in line to speed things up further?

Mobile data coasts are still reltively high arnt they, bonus of phone like the n95 with WiFi due to the number of public wifi spots available.

GPRS (up to 48kbit/s)

EDGE (EGPRS) (up to 236kbit/s)

UMTS/WCDMA (3G) (2100 MHz only, up to 384kbit/s)

HSDPA (3.5G, up to 3.6 Mbit/s)

That's what the phone is capable of in download speeds.

On almost all 3G signals on T-Mobile, unsure about other networks, but it is quite widespread on most of them

I'm on T-Mo's top data plan - 10GB/month @ UKP 22.50.
I get 1.3Mb/s anywhere there's a reasonable signal - and play internet radio all the time.
Use it for my lappy a few times a week and it kicks a$$.
Great service.
