I recently got my N73, and was already tired with all the applications 3 UK put on it, so i decided to update the firmware, using the tutorials i found on this site
So, just after I did that, i started to restore the files that I backed up with Nokia PC Suite. It restored it, and the phone said its restarting...ok, fine so far yeh?
Nope! After it restarted, it would start up properly! after the Nokia welcome screen came up, it said "Startup failed. Contact retailer". So, i started panicking, as I didnt change the product code back to its normal code, and that the PC couldnt detect the phone on USB. I googled the problem, and a link came up directing it to another forum, with a user who had the same problem and posted it up. There were a few responses, one which stated this;
Have you tried a hard reset to see if that fixes the issue? It could be something on the phone conflicting with the new firmware.If you get to the home screen (I assume so based on the fact it still receives calls), try dialing: *#7370# This will perform a soft reset of the phone (clear out all non-factory settings and applications. Be sure to note down your MMS settings, access points etc before hand.) It'll ask you for the lock code. Assuming you haven't changed it, that will be 12345.
If that doesn't work, try a hard reset/format, I can't remember the key combo.. if you need it yell and I'll dig in the manual.
So, i tried doing what he said, but it didnt work! scrolled down a bit on the forum, and the respone was by the original poster was this;
Fixed it! Phew!Powered on phone while holding down the green dial button, the number 3 & the * key & the master reset sorted it out. Have immediately set the product code to the proper one so it'll be easier to get repaired by Nokia should it die in future!
I tried what he did a couple of times. First time didnt work. Second time didnt work either. Maybe i was doing it wrong? Third, and last time... IT WORKED!
Lets hope it stays working, and im going to set the product code back to its original ASAP!
