gps problem

Hi there,

I'm new to this whole GPS stuff. Sometimes, more often NOT, i keep getting no GPS position when i try to get the program to find me. It keeps bringing me to the last position it found.

Any ideas??

Also if i have to pay for my WAP access, is it expensive to have it connected to 02 WAP and have it show your position for the duration of the route?

Have you downloaded the maps to your phone via 'Nokia MapLoader'?

If you haven't I suggest you do that or else your phone will be downloading the parts of the map as needing over your WAP, VERY pricey. Get Nokia maploader and put on the maps you need for the areas that you travel through.

If you have the latest firmware then you will have AGPS enabled by default. AGPS is assisted GPS and is used to obtain an initial lock on your position quicker by using your WAP or whichever network you allow it to use, to find your position. You can turn this off to not get charged for data usage. 'tools>settings> general>positioning>positioning methods>' and disable AGPS.

When you start MAPS, goto 'options> view> satellite info' and wait til you have atleast three black bars. Once you have that, you will have a lock on your positon and you are able to use MAPS. Your maps will always load and display it's last position. So this is normal, just wait til your receiver locks onto your current position.

im using version 11 at the minute and havent had any problem. Wasn't too keen to upgrade to v12 as i was thinking, if its not broke dont fix it!

Just incase it did mess up!

waxup is exactly right, but by the sounds of things you're not on the latest firmware so you won't have the a-gps installed in the maps. in which case to get a faster fix make sure you're outside and that you're not covering the bottom of the device (that's where the gps receiver is)

the a-gps will get you a much faster lock on, i usually get one within 10 seconds, it does however use data, so if you get charged a lot for data by o2 you may incur some cost, however to get a fix the a-gps only uses 6kb of data, so it's not very much, best checking with them how much that might cost you.

if you dont want to update your firmware for whatever reason, but want the a-gps you can update the mapping software by itself by going to www.smart2go.com and following the instructions. hope that helps 😊
