Is there a N95-2
If not couldnt they release an N95-2 for us non-American people and release it with the RAM upgrade and battery upgrade???
I dont want the N95 8Gb because I like having removable flash but would love to have the extra RAM and battery.
N95-2 = N95 8GB
It'll come out in November
But it's not what the original poster wants - an N95 with updated battery and RAM but without the 8GB flash, and removable storage instead. I'd prefer one of those myself, since I don't like the black colour of the 8GB 😛 But I don't think they're bringing out such a device.

October.
Why does the dude need removable memory ?
Surely 8 gig's enough for most stuff ?
But the 8GB will have another 64MB of RAM and a beefier battery.
Plus the annoying lens cover has gone, thank God.
And it's black - so with white keypad lettering, you can actually see the letters with the backlight on ... the current blue lighting on silver keys is shite for visibility.
Hoping the changed D-pad/button config's better too.
They say the build quality's better too - slide, etc ... not that mine's a problem, but I would like a grippier case material that doesn't creak all the time.
The people at the Los Angeles event told me November.
The D-Pad is indeed better. I found it harder to accidentally press the menu buttons.
The new screen is so much improved over the old one. It is much more flush with the rest of the face.
The case materials of both the N95-3 and N95 8GB were better and grippier as well
The people in London told me October.
I hope they're right.
Didn't realise you'd tried one out, Tranny.
Thanks for the (positive) feedback.
You got me REALLY looking forward to it now.
Can't wait to dump this old one. 😃
The lens cover being removed is a bad, not good thing.. now it means that the glass lens is constantly open to scratching.

The glass looks recessed.
Scratches have very little effect at such close proximity to the lens, anyway.
Never found it a problem before.
Your concern is misplaced.
The old shutter was a total PITA.
Uh uh, scratches can have an effect. I had a speck of dust (smaller than a bit of sand) on the lens, and it looked like there was a UFO in every damn picture.

What rubbish.
If you had even a modicum of observantness, you'd have noticed that even substantial particles make no difference to the picture.
And where they do, it's only to haze it - and certainly not to create any kind of objective image.
You remind me of the class geek - who used to make up stories to fit his theory of what was actually readily observable to even the least observant.
How old are you ?
@ Phoenix - Good word "observantness" .
If lenses were improved by dust and scratches they would come pre-scratched and dusted.
I suppose you would just dump it and get a mk4 (with nonslip dustgrip lens).
You must be Nokia's dream customer!

Transfer speeds are significantly better when I plug my memory card straight into a USB port. Using the phone in mass storage mode it slow and irritating for large file transfer.

WTF?
Quite simply they do, because I had the same dot on my pictures, every single one. This was the 6233, but same princible. When I removed the cover and got rid of the speck (I had to use tweezers) no more pictures had this same dot in.
Why you think I would make this up I have no idea. But your either wrong, or lying. Either way your being rather rude for a reason I dont understand.
Edit: heres an image with the spec in. As I said, when I took it out, it was smaller than a grain of sand.

Well, that's obviously a REAL UFO.
How long did it follow you around ?
There's obviously a significant gap between the focal plane and the lens cover on that phone.
Unusual, but the results are clear.
I still get specks on my N95 lens - the only difference is, I have to deal with the shutter aswell.
Indeed, the recess of the shutter makes the lens harder to clean.
With a flush glass cover, all you have to do is swipe it on your shirt.
I don't see scratching being a real issue unless your N95-8GB shares your pocket with a set of keys - in which case, you deserve all you get.
Yes - a real UFO that was on every picture I took (even inside) 🙄

Nope.
Hopefully your right about it not getting scratched as its recessed (although you then say its flush, not recessed in your last post - make up your mind).
An apology would be nice, since you called me a class geek among other things, but Im not expecting it.
And perhaps you ought to ask some professional photographers why they have lens caps?

When I said flush, obviously, I meant compared with the N95 shutter.
When I said recessed, obviously, I meant compared to the back of the N95-8GB 🙄
No need for making up of mind.
I will apologise, because as the pics proved - I wasn't right.
On the strength of which, the class geek observation must also be withdrawn - which it is.
Professional photographers use lens caps to protect the object lens - which in the N95-8GB, is covered by the flush, recessed (objective) lens cover. 😉
Ah I see, I admit that confused me a bit. Thanks for the apology, no hard feelings!

Which would kind of point to the fact scratches and dust effect the pictures 😉
Anyway, its a shame they dont bring out a standard version with more RAM. Im sure there would be a market for that.

OK, so onto scratches : - Do you think they'd affect imaging to anything like the same degree as micro-UFO's trapped under your lens cover ?
Im not sure, and Im the first to admit Im not a camera buff. But I cant beleive they dont affect the picture much. Also that 'just a bit of haze' would be annoying for many.
If the glass is as hard as that of the screen it will never get scratched. I have given my phone some abuse and its jangled in my pocket with keys and all sorts yet not 1 scratch on it!!
Well I thought that with my 6110, but my cat was playing with it the other day, and managed to scratch the screen, as well as bend the hard plastic casing (its a big f***ing cat).
Obviously, hes not in my good books.
How's that D-pad/button arrangement on the 6110 ?
Looks like it could be good.
Knowing Nokia however, it's prolly a proper PITA.
I have to say its very good, and its my first slide phone. I thought Id have a problem with the bit where the slides meet, but apperently not. Dpad works well.
The build quality of it is damned solid, really rugged feeling.
Hardwarewise, cant fault it.
Im just annoyed they used route66 for the navigation.
Oh, and theres also an issue of it randomly jumping a day back. Time stays fine, it just goes a single day back for no apperent reason. This is mostly likely software, but i suppose theres a small possibility it could be something hardware.

I'd just like to register myself on your side at this point; just in case Nokia read these forums and decide, "Oh, people don't care about lens covers." The camera is a big part of my use of the N95 and I want it to take the best pictures possible. Having a good camera and then allowing the lens to get covered in scratches and pocket lint is just plain daft. Given the choice between the extra RAM and a lens cover would be a tricky one, but I think I'd still opt for the lens cover.
