Hello!
Can someone tell me exactly how this user dictionary works because ive noticed that ive typed and saved words into it before (that werent there in the first place), and ive gone to type them again and they arent there and i have to re-enter them!
Is this done on the amount of free memory you have left on your phone at the time?
Does the phone delete things that are deemed "un-important" when you are running low on phone memory?

I seriously doubt that it would start deleting the predictive dictionary due to low space, it's only a few kilobytes (on mine, anyway). Much more likely is that it drops words if you don't use them for a long time?
The dictionary is a .dat file in C:\Predic\ on the phone; you can get an idea of what it contains by opening that using a suitable browser like YBrowser (the phone's File Manager can't see it). I don't believe that it's user-editable though.
Hi thanks for your reply - the only reason i noticed was that i entered the word "gammer" into my phone, and saved it and then within about 2 texts i needed the word again....but it wasnt there.
Its not a major worry but most definately could get annoying if it happened a lot!
I will definately download the Ybrowser and have a look at it though - thanks a lot for this 😊
In the past the dictionary has held say 1000 entries and as new ones get entered it gradually replaces older ones.
A group at uni when I was there were working on different methods of improving T9 methods which included a word counter to log how frequently a word was added and replace the least popular words, pluralisation ( for example if you add "roffle" it would also allow roffles and roffeling but as you might expect this is difficault when you have different languages etc. ) this was years ago and some things have seemed to appear ( or similar ) on my n95 such as words used the most appear to get suggested first (which is good)
A lot of phones suffer from case sensitive dictionarys so Hello is not the same as hello and gets stored twice 😞

If you remove the battery for any reason (or reboot?) or if you format the internal phone memory, the dictionary can be reset to defaults and all custom words lost.
I'm pretty sure simply rebooting won't do it..

Yeah i think something very similar has happened because ive had to put nearly every word back in 😞
Why its happened though i have no idea lol
