Hello :wavey:

I've used the N95 built in browser a couple of times now, and ill be honest i dont find it "that bad" but i was wondering what browsers i can get for my phone, and which of those browsers are free?

Is there one like Firefox i can use? As i love Firefox on my PC and just wondered if i could get the same for my phone :dontknow:

Firefox would be very much too complicated for the phone to deal with.. even Minimo, a related browser for Windows Mobile, is very memory-hungry and slow. Mozilla have just announced they plan to develop a mobile browser, Firefox Mobile, but it's only an announcement so far.

The one which usually gets most attention is the free Opera Mini; the beta version of Opera Mini 4 is available here:

It's a Java browser but it runs pretty well on the N95, and although it uses a lot of RAM, so does the S60 browser. Opera also make the not-free Opera Mobile, but I think that's a little out of date (version 9 is coming soon):

There are a few other browsers around, mostly Java, but Opera Mini is probably your best bet for an alternative browser at the moment.

Thanks 😊 ill definately look into this mate - cheers 😃

tbh completly honest the built in s60 browser has got to be the best ive used on any smartphone for a while.

Yeah, I do usually use the S60 browser myself. I imagined that I'd find the method that both it and Opera Mobile use of rendering the whole page normally would be a disaster, but most of the time it manages to correctly reflow the important content while still letting you navigate properly. There are times when it fails and text scrolls wider than the screen, or is compressed into an 80-pixel column for no reason, though.

You may want to look at the Opera browser, you can get a months trial for free. I has some advantages in the way it displays things and allows you to page up and down using shortcut buttons which can be very useful. And the back button takes you back to where you were on the previous page. It may not suit everything but I use it most of the time in preference to the Nokia one.

I've been using the Opera Mini 4 Beta but i havent used it enough to fully give a comparison yet, but its not bad from what i have used 😉

I've got Opera Mobile on mine, and I keep getting "Network error" messages for things like forums or gmail that require log ins. I can switch to the S60 browser and that connects to the same sites fine just seconds after, so not sure what the problem is. I wondered if there was some sort of preference I have set wrong in opera but can't seem to find anything that helps.

I prefer Opera, but if I have to swap browsers for some sites, then I tend not to use it...

Can anyone help? Anyone had similar probs? It's a shame because I want to use Opera ideally.

Dayz xx

Not yet, but it's on the cards.

There are also two Opera browsers available; the java based Opera Mini which is free, and the s60 specific version which is not. These reduce the data costs compared with other browsers because they use a proxy which optimises the amount of data send to the phone.
