Why is N95 so slow?

I just tried a 6110

WOW - this thing is fast, now my N95 feels like a slowboat (OK, maybe not that slow but still).

Opening messages:

6110: Instant, N95:several seconds

Opening camera app.

6110: 2 sec., N95: 4-5 sec.

How come the 6110 is so much faster, I don't think it has a faster processor than the N95

Is the N95 software really this bad optimized or what?

its an issue with low amount of ram in n95 and sophisticated hardware and software.

Thats interesting. I havent actually used an N95, looked at one but not used myself.

The 6110 has less RAM, and a slower processor than the N95.

This shouldnt actually be, dispite the extra hardware (wireless, higher camera etc), unless its in use.

Perhaps theres something running on the N95 for the extra hardware (most likely wireless for my guess) that slows it down.

For the record, I love my 6110, it knocks the bollocks off anything else imo. What will make it perfect for me is when tomtom release a version that supports the phone, as sadly route66 is crap.

The camera is slow to start; it's a 5MP camera with a lot of settings and a lot of image processing going on. That's not to say it ought to be quite as slow as it is, of course.. but it is.

As for messages, though - I wonder if you're getting to Messaging by pressing the left softkey at Active Standby. The system pauses for a short time after you press this key in case you're trying to lock the phone (left, right softkeys). Messaging opens in a second from the menu. Also you should remember that you don't have to close Messaging whenever you're done with it, or any other program that doesn't use much RAM - you can just hold the Menu key to switch between programs.

I wouldnt say its that slow, i mean opening messages on my N95 is instant, its only when you store 100s of messages its gunna become slow. Dont get me wrong the camera isnt the fastest in the world but hey, its the best camera in a phone i've seen to date

The camera is hell of a lot faster than on my old N73. It takes them fast but a bit of postprocessing goes on of course. The N73 took an age to actually capture an image whereas the N95 captures very quickly.

I found that using some of third party themes (not the defaults) make it slower.
