Nope no constand data connection 😊 ive gained PTT and the Settings configuration tool though by debranding.
Cant say I noticed any missing key bug but ive only sent about 1 text with the debranded software.

waveydave wrote:Quick update on the battery.1 full charge from new so far 24 hours of use with GPS maps running, web and cammera.
I have also done about an hour or so of talking and about 20 texts.
This afternoon tho after using it as an MP3 via an amp and speekers the battery faultered from 4 dash's to 2.
So was the 13 worth , yes at the moment i think so it means that i can go away for a weekend and not worry.
As for just using it as a phone , well thats just silly in my opinion why by a mini computer/gps mappy thing filiofax, piky taking thingy if all you want it for is to make a few shrt phone calls and a couple of texts.
I bought it for its features which i need so i expect to be able to use them. If i wanted a wire hooked up all teh time i would stay at home or use a bloody long cable on my laptop !
Been reading your post's with interest.
Have recently purchased a s/h N95 (mint condition). Battery life seem's to be the biggest problem. Is this the same battery as the one you purchased ?

Will probably try one myself.
The biggest reason I've found for the battery unexpectedly dropping is leaving a program like Web or Opera Mini open in the background, even if I terminate the data connection - maybe the processor can be kept running at high speed and drain the battery quickly?
I find leaving the USB connected raped the most better from full to emoty in as kittke as 90 minutes. Even when using a charger dock its constantly charging due to the power usage.
Quite luicrius rearlly seeing the USB provides ample power
This is a quote from a post on the N95Users forum,
"Hi everyone,i`ve just got myself a new 1400mah battery and was wondering if anyone has come across any problems when using a larger than standard battery???
Since i put it in,it was ok for the first hour and now my screen keeps going black and it is acting strange like the screen is dieing
Can anyone HELP!!! please..."
Coincidence?
Nokia have stated that using such a battery voids the warranty - so take care!

I agree. I recently got my phone back from a repair so it had been reformatted too. I plugged in the USB and charger but didn't realise socket the charger was in was not switched on! Needless to say, once I started installing apps etc it went from full to low battery warning in about an hour! 😮
I can't see why they don't allow it to draw power from USB, just trickle charging enough to sustain the data connection would be fine
Nokia should release modified battery cover soon.

Thats actually a really good idea wish they would. Or that they would design their own 1400Mah battery so we can guarantee its safe. Im to wary of 3rd party batteries to even consider the 1400Mah battery.
I read an article about the battery life problem on John's Reviews - johnsreviews.com/howtos/nokia_n95_tips_and_tricks.html
Just wondered if anyone had tried this approach, and did it work?
Pinched this linky from another forum.
Looks like people have had enough and are petitioning Nokia to get the batery sorted.
Hehe. 123 people have signed it. That'll scare the pants off of Nokia 😊 I think we all have seen too many petitions and no reaction to them EVER to believe in them anymore, unfortunately...
😡 Why the hell are people moaning about the N95's battery life,as far as i know there isn't a phone that will live up to its spec.My N70 would last for about a week or so on a full charge, but thats because i never really used it for much.
People are saying they want it to last at least 24 hours which is bull as i'd assume they sleep for at least 8 hours. Also i assume that most people are not actually constantly "OUT IN THE FIELD" with no recourse to a plug
Mine is pretty much never off charge and i dont give a toss,if its in the car on satnav duty its on the in car charger,if connected to the pc its on charge and if i dont need to use it ,its turned off , a genius invention , call forwarding helps here.
If you had a new series nokia before the n95 your old charger should still fit and can be left at work, new one at home and in car charger covers all the bases. If you know your going out for a specific task eg photos take a dedicated tool (camera).I hear you moan i did'nt get a phone with a camera to carry around a proper camera!
Lets face it none of us got the N95 because our lives depend on every single feature it has, we got it because its the best on the market with loads more gadgets than anything else.
GET A LIFE PEOPLE. The N95 is an jack of all trades 😊

The standby time of 75 hours is great, but when you kill 30 hours of standby by using the device for 45 minutes, most people would agree that a bigger battery is needed.
Besides, it's those who complain about the problem with the current line of phones that are responsible for the next gen getting better. You can see the result of that already, the N95-3 + N95 8GB.
What would have happened if everyone agreed that 2 hours of standby during usage is great? Why would Nokia then waste time and money trying to improve?
I complain about the battery life because its basicly crap.
After all this is suposed to be a MOBILE phone. The clue is in the title of the product, the word MOBILE is quiet an important issue here.
If i wanted a product that relied on an external power supplie every 3-4 hours to use for coms i would toat my laptop every where. After all i can get a card to slot in and go 3g on the lappy.
However i dont want to toat my lappy about and when Nokia stated that they have a product that is 'what computers have become' and boast mobile wireless multi media i was fooled into thinking thats just what i have been after.
Its not mobile its more portable if you have to find power ever 4 hours to use its features. Of course i could opt to not to use its features, but hang on whats the point of having a N95 then ? I could of saved cash and stayed with my old phone. Some people have stated switch it off if i dont need it. WTF i mght as well find a public call box as it will make me just as acsessable.
I bought this phone for its features and i wish to use these and i very rearly have an ablity to charge ever 4 hours. I work outside and away from a car .
I feel short changed and thats why i am complaining. I am now on my 3rd N95 as the others have had issues (crashing, speakers, overheating, battery etc) This product is still what i want but its looking like Nokia cant provide what they prommise.
As far as the petition goes i found it so i posted it ,its not my work and it may have only 123 signatures but the web is a big place and its early days. Somthing like this could snowball fast as long as people spread the word.
Nokia have sold over 1million N95's if only 25% of users sign they might listen.
After all every onei know who owns one is slagging the battery.
I have four AC chargers for my N95, two cradles, one USB charge/sync cable and one car charger. Enough said... 😊
Has anyone tried this on this website to improve battery life?

Does this really work?
(Sorry it won't let me post an entire link)

Nope, charge cycling has no effect on modern Li-Ion batteries, this is an old technique that seems to stick around like a bad smell. The best way to treat your battery is try to keep it charged as much as possible
yeah... exactly that... charge away...
I gotta say, compared to my N80.. the battery I have is fricking awesome... I had it on wifi ALL day today... and Im still nowhere near empty. On the N80... it lasted about 5 hours.
Might be out of context, but I just thought Id say after leavin it on charge overnight(took it off at 12 today).
My battery is still on 4 😃,which isnt bad at all. Despite this I wouldnt be suprised if the last few bars dropped like flies....thats usually how it happens.
Also just to mention its had plenty of usage 😊.
