Totally and completely confused by Nokia Maps — Nokia N95 and N95 8GB

Ok, I got my N95 from O2, which meant it came with a pre-loaded memory card with UK maps. I just downloaded a map update from the Nokia website. Now I appear to have maps of europe, but only certain cities (actually just Rome and major roads of Italy, I should point out that I was not asked which section of europe I wanted, I just accepted the general download). So whereas before I complete maps of the UK now I some maps of some european cities, which doesn't include my city (Glasgow, Scotland). So i have downloaded more and ended up with less! How can this be?

When I try and zoom into areas, such as Scotland, after a certain point the map changes from green to white with no detail and just an outline of the country.

What's going on?

It sounds like you've tried to update the maps without first deleting the old ones? You should use Nokia Map Loader to delete your old maps before installing new ones.

Well this is the thing, I also tried downloading the Map Loader but it hanged at the last stage, so it didn't install. It kept saying installing and nothing happened!

I suppose I will have to try again. Is there any of way of checking what maps or on the memory card?
