Sending SMS: Memory Full

Hi. I seem to be astoundingly prone to breaking my N80, or it was an early model and is prone to breaking, but I have a new problem now! I bet this one is a re-flash job too.

This morning, I was sending a sms on the tube, 2 SMS in length, just as I went underground. According to the recipient the first one came through, but the second did not. The message was still in my outbox, so I sent it again, and I got the usual vague message "Unable to send". I press details and I get "General: Memory Full. Close some applications and try again."

Sounds pretty ominous.

I have tried:

  • Emptying my sent, and reports folders.
  • Restarted the phone 3 times now.
  • Uninstalled some applications.

Receiving SMS is fine, MMS is fine both ways, I'll check phone calls soon, but I bet thats fine.

Has anyone come accross this problem? Or even a solution? I'm on O2UK, I don't expect this to make a difference, but if someone in the central London area can verify that they can send messages too it means its a phone fault, not O2s.

Should note, this is an original phone with the product ID changed to get IE on.

Cheers for any advice.

I just phoned O2, kill 2 birds with one stone. So phone calls work fine. It's definitally the software, maybe an error in the memory. O2 were less than helpful with ideas, but were certainly keen to replace it.

I'm on my last 2 months of contract, do you think its worth asking them if they'll bring the contract upgrade a month earlier? I don't really want to replace it, I don't have the time to spend without the phone.

My other options are updating the firmware at home, along with a factory reset. Or taking it to my local Nokia service center and arguing the toss about whether they should flash it for free after 16months or not.

yeah, I'd just get them to bring your renewal forward and make sure you get a good deal on whatever phone you want... O2 have always looked after me really well and have been pretty easy to budge on line rental price and phone price... got my N80 free and with 12 months 1/2 line rental from about 2 days of it being release. So I was happy.

I'll certainly try. But I suspect with a low monthly contract like mine (25pm) I doubt they would extend the same graces to me. I'll have to be using a Sony Ericsson whilst I get it sent off.

I'm wary of flashing it myself if it is a memory problem.

well, Im only on O2 500... so not paying much more than you... I normally just make sure I can get the deal elsewhere and then take it to them to beat it... all the best!!
