Proper Firmware Update Procedures for N95

Hey all, ill get my phone in 2 days or so, ordered it from mobilebee unlocked! Ive seen many post abot the new firmware v12, but haven't come across the proper procedures to update your firmware, money is hard to come around so i surely wudnt want to brick my phone by pretending to know how to update the firmware on the N95. can someone please tell me the right and proper and safe way? do i need to mess with product codes and all that? ive read about backing up as well, to micro sd or phone mem?

I just need a detailed procedure of upgrading my soon to b N95 to the latest firmware, ive read some scary stuff about NSU.

1) Back up your phone on the SD and on the computer. (Just in case one of them refuses to restore) [ U only need this step if you stuff on your phone that you want back after upgrade since it will erase everything.

2) PLUG IN THE CHARGER (VERY IMPORTANT)

3) Put the phone in General profile

4) Run the software updater

This is the proper way, now there is a chance of something going wrong and bricking your phone but I updated my n95 like 7 times and other phones more than 10 times and I never damaged anyone of them.

As for product codes all they do is change the languages that came with your phone and there is lots of posts here explaining how to do it, but it will void your warranty. If you like the languages that came with your phone then don't bother.

thanx man, i dont want to change language or anything like that! as i get the phone i will update so i dnt think i need to backup, correct? if i have my sim card in will my nums from that get deleted too or no? im just double checking! but y is there a risk of bricking it? hasn't anyone figured or nokia fix that problem?

Not just that but you can change product codes to debrand your phone (e.g remove all the orange software to make the phone faster) and it lets you get the latest official firmware without having to wait for the phone providerss to update their version

ok but im not gonna be with any of those providers, i dnt live in the US or Europe! im in the caribbean. so its not a prob, just needed a step by step to update firmware w/o bricking!

did some more reading, is it even worth it to upgrade to v12? i mean dang, im pissed already that my phone is running late and now after reading abt v12, seems that there are some annoying little problems and then again it fixes some good ones! what should i do?

The upgrade will not touch anything on the sim card, or the SD card, so you are safe.

Second, the only reason something will happen to you rphone is if your computer crashes while in the middle of upgrading or the cabble gets disconnected, or phone/laptop runs out of charge. Just make sure externalities like that never occurs and you will be safe.

Finaly the only reason I upgraded to v12 was because of A-GPS, nothing more, if you want that then go for it, if not............

Having updated to v.12 would I go back? No, that's answered that one.
About updating, check my blog-

My advice is never use backup/restore and only sync.
Product codes allow the correct network and regional versions to be flashed.

thanks guys, im much more relieved from these info and my phone is being shipped today, should get here either thursday or friday if all goes well!

Some folk recommend that you turn off your firewall and Antivirus progs before you flash too.
